HI I have a 53 ford that I am building as a mild custom , but not sure on what type of wheel disc to use Any suggestions??? Thankyou Sent from my SM-A520W using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Wheel disc..? Like a Moon wheel cover ? Or just any full diameter wheel cover ? If that's the case, why ask others, it's your car...right ? Do what pleases "you". "You have to look at it most, not others. Who really cares what others think about what you do to your car.? If you hate the look that "others" have recommended every time you wash it, work on it, get into it to go somewhere...what fun is that ? Beside...EVERYTHING is changeable. Use one cover today, use another next week..! Mike
I know in the end it's my choice, but sometimes a good idea or suggestion can be presented to you . Something not even thought of. The problem is I like everything. Thinking 56 caddy caps ? Sent from my SM-A520W using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Black 2 door the crome is shaved and wide whites . Get picture's up tomorrow Sent from my SM-A520W using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Nice ride...but wide whites? Given the clean simplicity of your build, one option is '56 Lincoln Premiers. Recommendations are free and easy, but availability becomes an issue. Given the options, i would probably go with re-pop Dodge Lancers (as posted by Jalopy Joker), at $60 a piece. https://hubcapmike.com/vintage-hubcaps/ I also like the Packard Clipper discs, among the used discs (available at the above link at the same price), and I run them on my own ride. A center bullet will finish them off nicely.
Well the wide whites are sitting in the garage waiting for the nice weather ( if it ever gets here ) . Once I figure out the wheels, I will carry on with the work Thanks Sent from my SM-A520W using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Steelies and wide whites all day. Even steelies and blackwalls if they are bias plies. Just nice, sand blasted and painted steelies. Those 49-54's are some of the best looking steelies ever made. Steelies. There, said it once more.
If those are indeed the original wheels, be aware that the center of the wheel sticks out much more than many later 50's wheels and therefore many of the cooler looking hubcaps won't fit because the center of the wheel hits before the cap is seated. I had a really great set of '60 Lincoln Premiere caps I had planned to put on my '52 and ran into this problem. Best to pre-fit the caps to the rims if you can before you spend a bunch on some that won't fit. Stock 52-53 and '54 (slight differences) full wheel covers are actually quite attractive, they look similar to the early Cadillac caps but with a Ford crest instead. On my '52 I bought a set of Mooneyes "full spider" caps and they fit as if they were designed to go on this specific rim only, I really like the look. I had painted wheels with rings and lugs on it for a while but I didn't really like it.
Any cool 50s cap would look good on that with wide whites. I also think chroming those wheels would be killer Sent from my LGLS992 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Nice ride and I agree full wheel covers would look good.. Google "vintage custom cars with full wheel covers" and click images.. Should get plenty of ideas...
Wheel discs are hub caps, right? If that is the case you can't go wrong on a Ford with baby moons and either painted or chrome wheels. I am not a fan of full hubcaps on that era Ford. Or spider caps will work too. I don't think that they were ever as popular as moons on those cars. They are either you like 'em of don't things.
My 53 was a Victoria and I ran the stock hubcaps. Painted the rims red for a splash of color. My whitewalls were medium size, maybe 1-1/2" wide. It was black also and had a cream top and I thought it looked pretty swell. No photos on the computer or I'd attach some.
I'm really liking chrome reverse, always have and then if it's time for a change I can pop on some wheel disks. Sent from my SM-A520W using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
