    Hi everyone,

I've always thought that a unique set of wheels can really make a car. For a while, I've been wondering how it would look if you took a steel wheel and finished it so it had like a gunmetal finish. Not chrome, not polished, but not just plain steel either. I think they might look kinda cool. Anyone ever done it before? Any pics?

I saw a guy (maybe 15 years ago)who had a 57 chevy,he brushed all the stainless trim with scotchbright and wanted the chrome to look the same.So he had all the chrome stuff nickel plated and then brushed it with the scotchbright like the stainless trim.It looked just like the stainless. It looked cool enuff to remember all these years.

Back in the late 80's there were a few pro-street cars that had weld wheels with a brushed/sanded finish that looked pretty cool. I am not sure if they came that way or if they did it themselves. You might want to did through somebody's old hot rod or car craft collection and see if it tickles your fancy.

Maybe a ceramic coating is what you want? Like Jet-Hot [TM] header coating. It's a heck ofa lot cheaper than chrome.

Do you mean blued steel - its a compound that is rubbed on guns to turn them blackish blue?

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. I wasn't sure what options there were out there for this type of thing. I just had a brainstorm and thought I'd see what others thought. The blue steel and Jet-Hot ideas sound unique... I don't think I've ever seen that before. Thanks!

By gun metal do you mean that gray that they used to paint cars back in the late '60s? If so eastwood markets a coating that's pretty durable, and looks like fresh cast iron.
It would pretty basically mimic gun metal as I know it. It would have a dull sheen, and be a kind of a blue/charcoal gray.

Boy to start with I thought you were gonna want to run Hoops, or Somethin' equally wierd (lame). [IMG]

If it don't make ya dirty it aint yours [IMG]
