Anyone run the gray salt flat wheels? Not really a traditional wheel? Im not sure when they were introduced?Lookin for wheel options for my 4 door 53 210 chevy without ruining the "look".I like the painted steels but looking for another option.Maybe chrome steel? Not really wanting wide whites or anything hot rod,its just a cruiser.:)

Painted steelies with baby moons and blackwalls looks good.

  3. Get what you like!!! I've always liked the salt flat style wheels, I like the Rocket Igniter better than the American racing version though. Once my newest set of whitewalls wears out I'm probably going to switch to them. Whitewalls look damn good but on a daily driver that sits outside they're a huge PITA to always have to clean.

I have had a set of 15" Salt Flats on my avatar for about ten years now. They are a pretty good "replica" of Halibrand sport mags from the fifties. The only problem I have ever had with mine was from the new age "ultra traditionalists" who didn't know anything beyond steel wheels calling them "billet". I still see that thrown around here on the board to this day too! Learn some history folks before you tell someone what's correct or not.

I saw your earlier thread on doing these a 17" size. I don't think I would myself. Originally Halibrand offered these wheels in narrow fifteen and sixteen inch sizes, and I think I would stick with that. A 15" on a 70 or 75 series tire would look awsome on your car. I personally wouldn't go with the grey coat, being shiney it looks kinda "artificial" on these wheels. I love the high polish on mine, but I think when the car goes back on the road this time I'm going to take the time to sit and scotch bright them back to a somewhat matte but bright finish. Halibrand also offered them in a gold/green DOW coat that always looks great against a black car.

This is the worst possible picture of my avatar to show off the wheels, but it's the quickest I can find in my rat tangle of a picture gallery.

    EDIT: Found a better picture!

****, Guess I like em better than I thought.

But to be Honest 17" anything on your Fo Do is Not going to even resemble "Traditional"

Thanks for the response.I do think i would stick with a 15 if i went that route.I think that its the only other option other than steel that would look good in my opinion. Thanks for the pics.
