I don't think they will clear the caliper. There may be some stock appearing wheels in 14" that may clear, I'm not sure what they might be. However it would be easier to find 15" that appear stock and will clear the rotors. If your wanting to use the stock hubcaps, I'm pretty sure there isn't anything that will do that. But here on hamb someone else may know better than I. Good Luck!

Some of the conversion kits will accept 14" rally wheels and some aftermarket styles. It's just a try it and see kind of deal.

I would run a 15, simply because of the tire choices.

  6. Bishop is correct, the car would have come with 15s anyway. On some stock drum brake wheels you can space the wheel away from the hub a little to clear the rotor. it is something they one would just have to try to see, unless someone on here has done it.

The wheel kid is a good source of wheels for that type of application, maybe he will see this thread and chime in or perhaps drop him a PM. Here is his proper screen name for the PM: wheelkid

  7. If you just want a steel wheel with a spider on it, you can use most any GM steel wheel with the 5 on 4 3/4 bolt pattern, from a disc brake era car. Newer ones have nubs for the hubcap to snap onto, the stock cap won't fit, but that shouldn't be a big deal.

Edit: those may not be common in Italy. Older Jaguar wheels have the same bolt pattern, that may be another option.

15" were stock on a 49 chevy... no need to run 14" wheels.

Ok as I understand it you want to run 14 inch steel (stock type) wheels on your 49. You should be able to do that without any problems but may have to use a spacer between the wheel and hub for clearance if the wheels are not originally made for disk brakes.
The summit catalog shows spacers in various thickness http://www.summitracing.com/search/part-type/wheel-spacers?keyword=Wheel%20spacer&kr=Wheel%20spacer

That kit uses the rotors and calipers that would fit an early 70's Chevelle.
Usually I have used spacers that were between 1/8 and 1/4 inch thick to clear the rotors on Mid size GM disk brakes such as Chevelle with my 14 inch rims. Yours may clear without a problem though as every application is not the same.

I should clarify, my truck had 14x7 inch rims on the front with 72 Chevelle disk brakes as seen in the avatar photo. I used spacers so that the wheels would clear the rotors.

The never ending story...I decided to run on stock 15 wheels (now 15 s/s cragar are mounted in but I don't like the design) so I place an order on Summit for 4 Wheel Ventiques 5 x 15 in chevy bolt pattern (5 x 4 3/4in) Steel O.E. Style + a set of wheel nut 7/16 in...noting particular just the originals! The parts arrived but the wheels Are not perfect, infact the ball/radius of the nuts don't stay properly in the lug seat on the wheel!! I think that now the only solution is to mill the conical area on the wheel just to give to the nut surface more space for tightening...
