Hi could anyone tell what the rule of thumb should be on what the gap or spacing between the rear inner tire and the box side panel usually is? Right now I have a strong 1/4" and with a 1/2" spacer I have about 3/4" which puts it in the middle of the fender. Is this a safe solution to use spacers this thick? Thanks in advance for your help ! post some pics. width of safe spacer largely depends on how long wheel studs are. need some of stud showing at end of lug nut.
I have a little more than 1/2" on my roadster - it'll touch under hard cornering (I'm going to fit some 16" wheels soon and will adjust the backspacing to suit as I need to widen them anyway) On the spacer: I'd prefer not to rely on the studs only - but if your spacer is machined to allow the wheels to still be hub-centric I think you'll be ok.
As long as they are hubcentric, and good quality materials are used, they can be of absurd lengths, and still be safe.
Depends on how much your suspension gives. Triangle 4-bar and anti-sway bar, a finger width is all you need.
Sidewalls deflect in cornering. If you drive like a grandmother, you can get away with less than some of us.
My '32 Highboy has ALMOST two finger widths. The rear tires are Hoosier 31x12 1/2x15 and the rearend is a stock width 74'76 V8 Comet-Maverick 8" dropout. The final clearance was set by the 10" steelies with maximum backspace offered by Wheel Vintiques. Tires have never rubbed even with the shitty roads in South Texas.
Thanks goes out to all of you guys ! It sounds like you guys know what your doing and I appreciate that ! Does anyone know where I can get a set of these "HUB-CENTRIC " 1/2" thick wheel spacers ? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
