The Halibrand's are nice but pricey but you already have my favorite wheels on the truck now, the old 5 spoke wheels would improve the looks of a dump truck. I also think the steelies look great. HRP
Rear wheels are 15" ×7". They are Ford from the early 1970s and were put on cars with big engines that did not get alloy wheels (Most did). Hubcaps were the same on all cars. These deep trim rings were hard to find 30 years ago when I built the car. May now be repopped. Front wheels are 14 inch. Hubcaps are same as rear. Trim rings are from a Grabber. (Maverick?)
From what you describe that you are after, but you don't like Cragar 'SS' style wheels, this might just be a beating around the bush hunt for the proverbial 'rocking horse shit'..............
I'm thinking your correct. It seems as though Astro Supremes or polished Americans might be the only answers that fit my original constraints. I'm not sure that I like them much better than the ET's that I've had on it for the last 30 years. I picture Astros as belonging on kustoms; something like a John D'Agostino car. But probably not Clarence. I've always been a fan of polished Americans but thought I wanted something with more bling. So my current conclusion is Polished Americans. Possibly polished Halibrands but probably not. HOWEVER; I thank each and every one of you who took the time to read, consider, and post an answer.
I have the Polished Salt Flat Specials on my 49 F1, and the Grey center Salt Flat Specials on my 34 Ford Sedan. I thought I would like the full polished wheel better, but honestly, I prefer the Grey Center wheels.
big and little torque thrust originals give Clarance a bad boy no frills attitude that screams you really want a peace of this, either dark bad and mean
As time goes on I'm thinking more and more on unpolished 5-spoke Americans. For nearly 30 years it's had 5-spoke ET's. I've liked the look for a long time but thought it was time for a change. Now I'm not so sure it really needs a drastic change; maybe only an update. I've still got the ET's but they are unilug and I'm through with unilug wheels. The following is pretty much a rehash of my original post. Here's what it looked like 30 years ago with the ET's: Here's what it looked like when it came out of paint recently:
Fifty years ago I'd have tried it, but at this age it just ain't happenin'. Maybe next year. I am, though, hoping to make the 2023 SW MO Hotrod 100.
Nothing flashes like Dodge Lancers. Or ‘56 Olds Starfires. Medium white walls with some tire rake. And there you go.
That is a big rig and in my mind (a very strange place to visit admittedly) it needs strong looking wheels to support it. Imagine truspokes as the weak end of the spectrum (cool on a vette but not on your truck). On the strong end of the scale I would say chrome steel wheels (I put them on my truck). I think the spokes (cragar, TT, etc) are too spindly under that big, beautiful body. I like the salt flats and unless I missed it no one suggested polished slots. I love me some slots. Hell, chrome 'em!
