Hi all- I think im posting this in the right section. I have a set of 33/34 wire wheels (17” x 3 1/4” wide) Im looking at a set of firestone and just want to be certain I can mount them on the wire wheels as there is some conflicting information regarding “recommended rim width” Fronts, https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cok-688960 (info appears the same across all websites- 3 1/4” rim width) Rears, https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cok-700600 Vs https://www.universaltire.com/fires...ply-tires/600-650-17-firestone-blackwall.html Summit states a recommended rim width of 4” Universal states a rim width of 3”-3 1/2” Anyone know if these will work with my wheels?? appreciate any help. Shane
Not sure what your question is...do you wonder if the oversize rear tires will fit on the wheels you have? or are you wondering why the suggested rim width is different on different sellers' web pages? I don't see how it matters, either way...you'll be able to mount the tires, they'll make your car look like an old hot rod, life will be fine.
Im really not knowledgeable on tires- these things are expensive and I just want to make sure they will work on my wheels at the end of the day.
All of those will work on those wheels. I have used similar tires on ‘32 wheels which are 3.25” wide. I recommend you use the best tubes you can find. Here’s a personal opinion: a 6.00 or 6.50 tire is not big enough for the rear of a hot rod. My car has 18x7.00 on the rear and 18x5.50 on the front. I wish I could have found 5.00 for the front for a little more contrast.
Don't know the correct answer, but Coker recommends a 4" rim for the Firestone 600/650-17. I've always referred to them directly, for info on these classic type tires. https://cokertire.com/tires/firestone-600-650-17.html
And the exact same tire (part # 700600) on the universal tire website recommends a 3”-3 1/2” rim width- this is my dilemma.
Whats the difference between 4 and 3.5 ? Quarter inch on the outside and quarter inch on the inside. You could also say 4/16th which sounds even less, overthought problem solved .
thats a pretty big tire for the front....but, don't know what car so that makes a big differance,, I just changed my fronts to this... 450-17 Excelsior Blackwall Tire (universaltire.com) they're 26'' tall VS 29'' for the ones you are getting...
Thanks-the pickup looks awesome. Apparently im totally overthinking this but by the time those land in my part of the world they are like $1900- want to make sure I get it right the first time, appreciate you educating me on tires, in my field of work a 1/2” is a mile of error… or in my case a Kilometer. My plan is to more or less to replicate this car- I’ve been obsessed with the look of this thing.
