trying to figure out what rear end to use on the 31 model a? want to keep the same width as the stock front axle while still using the stock wire wheels. or convert the front hubs to a newer setup to match the new rear end lug pattern and then sort the brakes like the look of finned drums but want to do a hydraulic set up. where to start ?????

Welcome! I had a lot of questions too, I went to the top of this page and typed 30 Coupe, in the search block. There is so much information here.
I'm still new here at HAMB, but I've been measuring my 30 A coupe for a while to see what fits. Here is what I've found. If you want the same 5 1/2" lug pattern on both ends... a 1966-1976 early Bronco rear end is narrow and has a 5 1/2" lug pattern. The 37-48 spindles fit on your 31 front axle. There are so many different brake drum conversions for spindles 37-41 and 42-48 that keep the 5 1/2" pattern. I've been told that the conversion to 73-93 F150 front discs is too heavy, but it has the 5 1/2" pattern.
Next. The 8" ford r/e's from Mercury Monarchs, old Mustangs, and Fairmonts is narrow, and they have a 4 1/2" lug pattern. There are several disc brake conversions that use the 4 1/2" lug pattern. Good Luck, hope this helps.

  3. Hey,

Welcome to the HAMB: The source of all knowledge!

Check out the archives for all the info on finned brakes and hydraulic conversions. I got all my questions answered there when I started on my traditional Hot Rod Journey.

    Good luck, Have fun!
