Gents. If one is building a "Traditional AV8..." what would be the earliest build style one could assume and use a cross steer set up? i.e. "...it is a post war styled hot rod....that could have built as early as 19___" Thanks in Advance. Rick
Awesome...so, an AV8 built post war/pre 1956, could indeed have cross steering and be "era correct'! Excellent...thanks!!! Rick.
You are correct, that puts the build date back to 1908, maybe earlier, have to check on models N,R & S. Bob
1901 Packard had cross steer , 4 link , panhard bar & transverse spring. So, there is nothing new !!!
While a lot of cars had cross steering the steering boxes of choice in the Hot Rod world were '56 F-100 because of the shorter column, Reversed Corvair for lighter cars and with the advent of street rodding in the late '70s the Mustang box and finally in the '80s the Vega cross steer. The Vega became feasible because Porsche 914s became available in the junkyards and with them came inexpensive u-joints and shafts to connect the Vega to a column.
