When did flake paint come out?

I was wondering, when did flake paint come out? I had one of my friends think flake paint was started in the 80s. And got me thinking, when exactly was flake paint started?I always thought late 40s early 50s.

 

I think Metalflake was introduced in 1960.

I've got a 1961 Hot Rod magazine with an article about the latest craze---Metalflake.

 

Not really metalflake, but in the late 30's Indian offered metallic paints on motorcycles.

I vaguely remember Scritch's Deuce being flaked in '58.

That article may be just the '61 version/update of the craft.
You know all the car mags ran/run painting how-to's every Winter/Spring.
They put them in the April issue now because it comes out in the Winter.
