Folks Of Interest When did the "band" break up?

  1. Ironic..where are they? why did they leave?

Yet they know where you are, and don't make a point of posting/acknowledging you (you, meaning anybody who cares..I'm not in that group).

Like an old boss of mine used to say:
"Some do, some don't, so what, move on"

Well obviously I show up just about every day and waste way too damned much time on here.
I miss a lot of the road trip, where we ate and who we saw threads that folks used to post as it added to my bucket list of road trips that I want to take.
I'd agree that a lot of the missing folks either had job changes that take up a lot of time or life style changes that took them away from the HAMB. Stuff happens, they move on to other things, a significant other takes up their time or they plant a garden or ah forbid buy and ot rig as their enthusiast rig.

Well it's time go to work on my OT truck so I can take my sailboat over the hill in two weeks and go party.

  3. i am banned from face book and instagram for posting too much traditional hot rod stuff.

I tried to post this on the app, but that damn thing thwarts me half of the time...

IMHO, Denise's & Megans' posting about their hot rod adventures was a kind of glue that helped hold this joint together. The silly shit we all do adds character to a bunch of characters.

As those folksy kinds of posts waned, I think that some of the outside participation diminished too. Other than LSR, I can't remember a single Meet-n-Greet at an event in the last couple years & we used to host a lot of them.

This was the Meet-n-Greet at the 2009 Detroit Autorama:

  5. The "new" way of getting your business noticed is to blog (I hate that word) and social media outlets (I hate that too). So maybe those folks spend more time and energy in those avenues to promote business rather than post here.
Someone keeps saying newbies are chasing away the more established members, I don't see that. Those members are way more tough skinned than to have some negative comment hurt their feelings and leave. People come, people go. It's a cycle, life moves forward.

Maybe it's a combination of reasons for some. Life changes priorities. I haven't been on much the last couple years.

I dunno where everybody else went, but as for me I went to the Garage. It's peaceful in here and nobody asks me if my Red rims make me look fat.

    Viva la HAMB

Ever notice someone new will show up out of the blue with a lot of knowledge on a topic, most often something historic, and add some new info on the topic? I always wonder how they found the HAMB, post a welcome and thank them for the additional info. I miss the old members but there sure are a lot of new ones helping things roll on. Bob

Things Change. I have been on here, in various forms, for all of 15 years. I miss the old Hamb too. Germ flamed me when I first arrived, and I turned down Zenors offer to cycle me into the `Permanent List`...back in 2000 or so....

Today will always be different than yesterday. We all get older, softer and tired. I think the HAMB actually fills the old RRT niche now more than anything. Just like the Polaroid Camera, it will hang on for a while with a slowly dwindling active/informative base. By the time everyone has moved on, Ryan will have retired to Hawaii with El Jefe.......:D

The HAMB is becoming more about a "new car with a old body" and less of what it's meant to be about, traditional cars.

I suppose that's valid to some degree, like with the discussion about living w/ a "HAMB friendly" daily driver, and the old car compromises some would have to make for it to work for them. OTOH, when I look at the annual round of building activity going on with the Race of Gentleman entrants, I think that this is the kind of stuff that keeps the HAMB close to its real traditional roots. I like both flavors. K6

  16. The HAMB hasn't made me laugh out loud for a long time. No matter how lame a comment, nobody gets flamed for it any more. With out the rough kidding, the lame threads and comments are just...lame. I think it's a filter that isn't here, anymore. The result is some very, umm, odd versions of "traditional hot rods". We hand out "participation trophies" for crappy cars. Somebody cobbles a large '60 station with a wobbly solid axle front end and calls it a "GASSER" and the thread fills up with admiring posts. We should be calling that stuff out. Big wagons were push cars. Now, all sorts of people think that station wagon is how gas class cars were. Because we don't call bullshit. It's classier to poke fun, than to simple say: Hey! That's stupid. Call that barge almost anything you like, but it's NOT a gasser. Correction of the proliferation of misused terms would be a good thing for the HAMB to promote. We don't need Germ back, we just need 3 Window Larry, Special Ed, TERPU and some of the rest of us off the leash. It just could be fun again.

You can see Chris Casney ever so often at Top Notch burgers in Austin located in the 7500 block of Burnet Rd. He may roll in driving his rootbeer roadster or his chopped Model A coupe. He will probably be with Dreddybear who drives a chopped, channeled, slammed Model A coupe. These two are SERIOUS rodders. Don't know about any of the rest.

K6, you took the words (all 456of 'em) right out of my mouth. I am one of those who touts the 700R4, and your speed and rpms are right on the money. Being on a fixed income, I could not make those trips to the land of the fruits and nuts to attend LARS if I didn't squeeze 22 mpg out of my roadster. Only a midget can crawl under my car to discover that OFF TOPIC trans anyway. Thanks for shoring up us rebels. I surely hope no one thinks I am WHINING because of my fixed income. HUH ?

And to think THOSE mindless, clabber-headed shits are the ones who COULD rescue our passion with rods from oblivion. We are fucked.

I used to enjoy the Hamb very much and met many of my best friends on here.
But too many of my posts were being deleted after I spent a lot of time on them.
Most all the people that have been mentioned still hang out and visit and laugh together daily on Facebook.
I still play with my cars and bikes and am building a new shop.
I hosted a big car show and pie festival of my own and raised a lot of money for charity.
    I didn't go anywhere.
Nor did the other folks mentioned who are way cooler than me.
Thanks to Moriarity for alerting me to this thread so I could log in and say hello.

This is pretty simple to me. There are way too many off topic builds/posts that are let slide . Then all these Canadians say "don't listen to them, build the car how YOU like" when they get called out for something.

I visited with Plowboy this past weekend at the Meltdown. We had a good visit. He didn't mention anything negative about the HAMB-just that he didn't get on here much anymore. We actually talked about all the rain and how it is effecting the crops. Our world is changing fast. Most of us have a short attention span and are always looking for something that's always exciting-something that always keeps us pumped up or entertains us. Just look at the bashing that Goodguys and the NSRA events take. I'm guilty, I wish the events/hobby was like it was in say 2000. I don't think there's any fault of the HAMB, Ryan or the moderators. People just move around looking for new stimulus. Sam

Larry, I've said that exact thing to myself, more than once. Maybe I should try American beer.

Well I'm still here but not many give a shit. I'm fine with that. I figure I can be found here or by email and that's enough. If it's about something else I'm in to (like sleds) I can be found on one of those boards by those folks. I don't do FB or Twitter or IG. Someone's hosting a FB page for my shop but I don't use it. I agree that some folks here just like to bash but I was always ok with that too. It's like sitting on a milk crate in your garage or shop with a bunch of gear head buds and busting each other's balls. And many of you are right about being thin-skinned more than ever. Reminds me of the bully laws. The bully law when I was young was fight back and take the occasional ass whippin or kick theirs. Y'all's right, times are changing but I still use old tools and turn wrenches on old cars. I try to help with paint questions now and then but project posts can't happen for me. Too much to do. I may not get here as often as times past but still here. I run into locals now n then and we never forget who we are or how we met. That should be good enough. However, ask yourselves this, what if this place ceased to exist an hour from now? Your own personal answer will tell you how important it is to you. Me, I'd miss how to contact certain people easily but life would go on. Remember, NOBODY, NOBODY, NOBODY really NEEDS a hot rod or vintage car of any kind. It's all a choice. The HAMB itself is a choice, and I'll go on record to say it's decent one at that. Carry on...
