That's pretty neat. Nash Metropolitans were cute little cars.

  2. No sir, To me a '55 Chevy 2 door post car looks like a hot rod, I prefer them over hardtops. . HRP

Yep, I also prefer 2-door post cars over hardtops.

This belongs to the wife of the late author Clive Cussler. The exotic woods replaced the plastic on this Mercury wagon

The only cars I made money on were woodies.

  7. I had a La Salle Hearse just like this in 1958 - pretty cool wagon with all red velvet interior. Kept beer and ice in one of the fender well tire covers and carved wood curtains.

I could see myself with beater, mild custom wagon. I need to haul stuff regularly. Might as well look cool.

  11. My '63 BelAir. This car is seriously fun to drive and I love piling the kids in it and cruising Woodward in the summer. When the first snow hits, before the salt trucks come out, I like to find a parking lot and do a mess of donuts :)

    Hello,

This is a good starting point. Our friends had one cool station wagon. It was one of the nicest ones in our group and those that surfed in south Orange County. We had to drive from Long Beach 50 miles south, but this station wagon was on a similar track to the better surf spots.

At first, we were able to go locally in Belmont Shore 72nd Street breakwater opening, as it was reachable. Whether it was a drop off to surf, stay all day and a mom would come, pick us up later in the day. Or, drop us off on the other side of the boat harbor channel in Seal Beach to surf without a car of our own. The need to go surfing took all forms and methods.

I even tried to hitchhike from the Westside of Long Beach on PCH. It was a two block walk and with my board and thumb out, it took 45 minutes for a couple of guys from Palos Verdes to pick me up in their station wagon as it had a nice rack and room for more surfboards.

My brother was already at the Camp Pendleton hide out and those Palos Verdes guys dropped me off at Dana Point. In front of Hobie Surfboards, I got a ride to the overpass at the northern end of the marine base and walked into the jungle from there.

From that point on, I looked at several station wagons, but none stuck out as one I would like to have. So, I found a 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery for my first car.

But, for the high school dating scene, a station wagon was better suited for the parents. Rather than pull up with a sedan delivery, a nice station wagon the could be seen anywhere, by any one, at any time seemed to satisfy those picky parents… YRMV

So, the station wagon was accepted by parents and looked nice, as long as it had a stock paint job and looked presentable. Ratty station wagons were definitely a no-no situation.

My friend’s sea green station wagon was a little rough. If it were painted black and had nice whitewall tires, it would have hit the “parental spot.”

Although, if he had put on some Dodge Lancer, 4 prong, flipper hubcaps and given it a lowered look, it would have given it some added custom touches to his Plymouth Station Wagon. (after finding out there is a little bad gas…CO … coming in the back window, so new roof racks would have been added, too. )
