I remember reading that the Beatnic Bandit was set up like that. It's only OK if Ed Roth does it.

The Hilborn/EFI think is OK because it's functional and you're not really deceiving. It actually works.

Hiding disc brakes behind finned covers is too close to call.

Basically, if you use that fake **** on your car, it's the equivalent of being that loud-mouthed braggard that everybody hates. We all know his **** is weak, we just get so tired of calling him on it that eventually we give up all together. He is still a turd though, and nothing can change that.

Hey choprods- that's not the kind of fake they're talking about. It's trying to convince folks you have an Olds mill cuz ya put Olds valve covers on your sbc.or running parts that aren't hooked up.Big difference. -Strat.(Never kissed a man *** btw.)

i love fake woodies. gets the wife off my back and i get a good nights sleep for a change.
fake anything on a car doesnt need to be there in my opinion. but let me state, i think a real fibergl*** car is a real fibergl*** car... it is something even though it isnt steel. some are styled better than others, but i dont need to say that.
the worse case of fraud i ever saw was "faking" a vinyl top with teacup patterned shelving paper on an impala.... that was awful.

Actually when you think about it, every car on here that wasn't built back in the day that it is supposed to represent, their fakes.

Like a "rat rod", that’s a HUGE fake. Those didn't even exist back then

A traditional styled car that's built to represent an era, it's a fake in the sense of the word.

But what ever you think of as "fake" or how ever far you want to take "fake", who cares, it’s your "real" money that you will be spending in order to get the look that YOU want.

But that's just my two cent's.

Ahhh Bruce, there's always exceptions to the rule...when I moved to Denver in '66, I had a '64 Impala...and ran cheater slix on the street...from spring to fall...back and forth to work...even out on the highway to head up to Erie's AHRA race trak for some 1/4 mile'n, about 25 miles north of Denver...never had any trouble with them...went thru three pair...sold that '64 and bought a clapped-out '57 Chevy...ran slix on that one year round cuz it had a six & 3 on the tree in it...never got stuck in it...so, there've been people that have run cheater slix year round...and yeah, it may be an exception, but I did it!

Wouldn't fake people actually be real fake people therefore that would make them cool?

Yes, lots--the "Anglias"--actually, the 4-door Anglia was a Prefect, I think--were a kind of special Case. As people in the g***er wars looked around for something even smaller and lighter than a '33 Willys, they turned here first. Only the four-door Prefect version met the rules, because it had a bit more wheelbase than an Anglia--I can't remember if the rule was 92" or 100. Some four door Austin (A-40??) was likewise popular, same time and reason.
Then, the Anglias were legalized in a rules change, I think actually forced by the racers--g***ers were a big draw back then, necessary for keeping the stands full, and a couple of the biggest teams just switched and forced the issue. They were the star performers for a couple of years back then, and NHRA needed them.
Right after this, all public interest swung away from g***ers to super stocks, factory experimental, and the resulting pro stockers and funny cars, and gas cl*** shriveled and died.

  15. Hell, she ain't gonna hurt my feelings as long as she'll tell me what I didn't do right. On the subject of doing it right, if it's not functional I really don't care too much for it; i.e. empty blowers, phony tri-power set-ups, etc. Fake kick start on a bike - what the hell is that all about?!?!

As for fake ****s, I've met quite a few ****s in my day and they're all real idiots, not a faker in the bunch. What? Not that kind of ****? Huh? OH!!! Those kind of ****s!!! Don't like those either. :)

The first fake I ever saw was in 1957-ish. A chopped and channeled east coast style model A coupe that most here would really dig. It was an old car then so he put DeSoto Firedome valve covers over the 8BA heads. I was impressed. I was 13.

  18. THE GOOD...

    Pertronix in a Mallory distributor
    Alternator in generator case
fake stock radio face concealing modern stereo
    fake cloth wire cover

    THE BAD...

    fake quick change diff cover
anything intended to make an SBC look like something other than an SBC

    THE UGLY

fake nitrous purge kit (quite possibly the stupidest aftermarket car item ever created)

I had what turned out to be a fake woodie in San Francisco back in '66 or so - one of the broads I was eyein' in a bar turned out to be the other broad's husband, and his ***s were bigger than hers! I doubt that it would have brought $96,000 dollars, nor was it made of steel, but I bet a major mag would have liked a picture..... :D

Why do some of you guys care so much about what other people do to their car?

Good Grief! ...you got me on all counts of the not OK! Sure wish somebody would've told me about this stuff in advance! Just kidding! There's a lotta' different schools of thought out there at just about every venue in the "Car World" isn't there? just about anything goes! It's wise to run a SBC simply because of the practicality and availability of parts. Try to find something on a late Sunday afternoon for your Nailhead Buick, J-2 Olds, or early Hemi! Did I leave out Flat-head? Sometimes the shortest trip around the block is the best way to travel!

fiberl*** body is fine as long as your not bonding in rust to make it look like its steel.

I've got a fully functional Rochester Tri-power on my mild cammed Vette (yes, it's a REAL by-the-numbers 68 Vette mill) in my 26' T and it works just fine. When I'm at cruises, shows, etc; I'm almost always asked if it's for real. Does it run on all three carbs, etc; What they DON'T ask me is how many weeks of trial & error I had to go through to get it to work! I got lucky when one day an "Old Hat" Hot Rodder walked up my drive and asked me why I had the "mix" (air/fuel) so screwed up? Bingo! 10 seconds of "balanced adjustment", and it was fine! So it goes. I have to "blow the cobs out" about once a week, but other than that, no problem. Bottom line is this: I wouldn't have it any other way! I wanna' hear those three scream when I stand on it, and they do! Just me and another 2 cents worth.

I think fake buick brakes, fake multi carb setups, fake blowers, and dummy gauges all ****. I don't have a problem with cheater slicks or some 4 door g***ers. I guess because near me there's a guy with a 41 willys more door that's an old g***er with history.

I don't like dummy spots. Somehow dummy spots and fake lake pipes became ok. Fake chrome is not ok either.

  29. a moaning real (******) is better than a screaming fake.

  30. I don't get it. Why yes on empty blower, and no to fake Hilborns? Seems about the same thing to me (if one ****s , they both ****). And what's a fake Cheater? Either it's a cheater, or it's not. Just stirring up **** as usual i guess.
