I agree absolutely with Bobwop. You don't need anyone's permission but your own and your sweetie.

I'm going to Lake George N.Y. Abought 300+ miles. I am driving my truck my wife is driving her car. Trailers are for wimps. I would stay home before I would trailer my rod.

Or maybe for fast hotrods. Not all street legal cars are built to be "reachers".

  5. Trailers are for racecars and showcars. HOTRODS are to be driven! Drove my rat over 1000 miles in 1 weekend to Salina, Kansas last year. Mine is driven everywhere that is what there all about. The only time that you will ever see it on a trailer is if its broken or if someone steals it.

I don't see a problem with trailering it. It's your car and you can do whatever you want with it. If you were worried about image why not trailer it close and drive the T in while your wife drives the tow vehicle

  7. I looked through some of your previous posts trying to find a picture of your T-Bucket. As a rule, I don't like them...maybe yours is one of the exceptions....but.... I saw a post where you said you have no front brakes and motorcycle wheels....I wouldn't drive it.
I certainly wouldn't put my wife in it if I did.

90% of the people who say 'Trailers ar for wimps' wouldn't stop to help you if you broke down... Or would just be in your way if they did...

Forget them... Do what's the most fun for you and your family...

If you know you can drive your car halfway across the US, who cares if anybody else does.

only when it is broken, damaged, not together enough to drive it, or you first got and it don't run yet.

In the Traditional sense, Most of the "Cruises" back when were local in nature. Maybe 30 to 50 miles away at the most. Not some 500 to 1500 miles away get together. So driving to and from was no big deal. Back then, the majority of us who were there in those years were single, out looking for the girls, not bringing them along.

The above quote makes reference to "Back in the 70"s" Hello!!!! Does not the "Traditonal" cut off usually state cars prior to 1964? The way hot rodding was back prior to 1964?

Why does one go to a gathering anyway? Is it for the cars, or having the camaraderie of like minded people getting together and having fun?

IMO...if a person is wanting bragging rights of, Wow look at me, I dove my car with no top, or no heat no windows in the rain, 100+ temps, a zillion miles, is not hard core, that's just pain stupid.

Look at even the old original cars of the 20's and 30's that were roadsters, or tubs, they even had tops and canvas side windows to keep out the weather. Manifold heaters, or Southwind heaters to try and keep somewhat warm in colder weather. Cars with roofs and windows were for the purpose of being able to drive in inclimate weather.

The roadster I had back in the 50's did have a top, no side windows, and did have a complete Gold leatherette interior in it, so no I did not drive it in the rain only to have the interior be rotted out by the weather. If I didn't have anything but a Mexican blanket, or sitting on a tractor seat in it, that might have been different. It didn't get driven in the winter, but did come out in the spring and summer months. (At least here in the mid-west.... you fellows in year round warm weather, that's a different breed of cat)

Back to the original poster of this tread, he did not say he does not drive his ride only to unload it from a trailer, then into a gathering, but in this particular instance, he was bringing along his wife.

To whit I say...."I really don't care how you got there, but I am glad to see you again, or for the first time". And I'm glad your brought your Mrs. along.

You can almost guarantee that if the wife is miserable on the road trip, she will make sure you will be also.
Trailer the ride,be comfortable,-that way both of you remain pleasant on the trip.

The only time it's a problem is when you unload it from the trailer at a hotel 15 miles away, then drive into the show trying to play it off like you drove the entire way. Then you talk some shit about how the ride down wasn't so bad, and how you drive your hot rod everywhere...

Then someone catches a glimpes of your car on the trailer 30 miles from the show cause they're driving home the same way.

People who Bull Shit are annoying. You can't build a car? Who cares. You trailered your car to the show? Who cares.

The only time it matters is when you do it and say that you don't, or when you can't do it and say that you can.

I have seen PLENTY of trailering over the years and lately for financial reasons I have hauled quite a few cars to new owners. I was over 30 before I ever towed a trailer, but in the last couple years I have towed all over the west coast and been across country with a 24 ft enclosed trailer a couple times.
It's like second nature now- but I was TOTALLY scared the first time I pulled something behind my truck. I didn't know what to expect. I'm looking forward to trying out my new car trailer when it comes in next week.

Anytime you feel like it. Who care what other people think about whether you can drive your car 1000 miles and back. Pissing contents bore me.

There are a million reason to tow a car across country and a million reason not to. What ever suits you or family's needs is what should you should worry about.

I absolutely shocked how many HAMBers are trailer fans!

Please tell me that none of you are the type that sit around at a run and bullshit about all the cool stuff on their trailer.

sounds like a lot of miles in a T bucket. I'd prolly drive the daily and leave the HOT ROD at home. the main reason for me bringing a car into a show is a place to keep your cooler and stuff. I already know what my car looks like... I go to see everyone elses.

I have an open car, I love driving it. My wife is a pretty good sport at anything within 100 miles, but if she's going and it is a long drive, or the weather is iffy, I'l trailer it.

Laugh if you want, I have thick skin. I trailered it to the drags because I didn't want to have the hassle of finding a way home if i broke it, and I didn't want to have to baby it so I wouldn't.

Drive it when you want and trailer it when nessesary.

Your still a car guy and for the most part they are a pretty good bunch.

  25. Trailer it whenever you are more comfortable to do so. Everyone gets something different out of rodding, some like the building, some live for the driving and others for the hanging out at shows or gatherings. It doesn't make a damn bit of difference what a bunch of yahoo's behind a computer think. Seriously!
I drive my car to every event I can. I did tow it once to an event on my COE and a couple of different dickwads started to give me shit about it. I asked where their cars were. One didn't have a car! One said he was still building it and the third one just said "at home". About what I figured.
In 1995 we went to the Harley Davidson 95th Anniversary in Milwaukee. We live in So Cal. My wife had an XLCR (the café racer) and I had a Buell. Neither of these bikes has saddlebags and only go about 100 miles between fill ups. In addition our buddy who's sister lives in the area and was letting us stay at her house found out last minute that he couldn't get enough time off. So we put our two in the truck and his on a trailer and he flew in for the weekend. It was amazing to hear the comments from some of the fools asking why we didn't ride - Hmmm, let's see, two Sport type bikes and a third bike with two people. Do the the math Sparky. We had a great time and it was the only way we could go, so what's wrong with that?
If trailering is the way for you to go and have fun and enjoy the event with your wife, then by all means - DO IT!

personally i believe trailers are for boats.
as for your situation thats up to you and your wife. My wife likes short trips nothing more. On long runs she likes to play support vehicle. Nothing worse than breakin away frome youir home area. No matter how well you build it Murphy is always somewhere close.
As for your wife, if she runs good and you have here dialed in keep here that way. I can dial in a motor quick , fast , and in a hurry. But getting the woman dialed back in .................................. Keep here happy.

If you never travel on a trailer, maybe not. Different horses for different courses. And after everyone posts here, I'll bet PaintCan does just what he wanted to to begin with.

  29. I would normally say when it won't move under its own power. I mean face it that's what a stretcher is for the sick and wounded, right?

But the truth of the matter is I really don't give a damn if you trailer it or not, its your loss not mine.
I'm sorry the wife has back problems BTW. I totally understand that one.
