Hey Don, we've met a couple of times, it sounds like you're coming out of a very rough patch in life. I want to wish you well in your new adventure, I've got your Highway 99 site bookmarked to keep up with what you're doing. Good Luck to ya!
Good luck with the new job, Things will get better. You have a great attitude. Good to hear the insurance came though on your car. Thanks for the pictures on your sight for us on the east coast. Hang in there and keep us posted.
Don, lemonds and Lemonade, you're a well loved and respected man, with a whole heap of talent, remember that, believe in yourself, because there's a whole lot of us who do.....stand tall, and walk forward. Heads up, Drewfus
Never met ya but I hear ya! I just quit my job of 18 years(just sick of the same old bullshit every day). Some times you just have to "Go For It!!" Good luck with your new shop! And...Just a little saying me and my old buddy had for old GF's. Fuck-em all, feed-em stew steak and eggs for my and you!
Don......... Went down the divorce road 3 years ago......... Have never been happier , met a nice gal that loves Hot Rods, am now able to do what i want when i want......... Best wishes on the new shop !!! Randy
Can I get a lemon shirt??? Sorry to hear about all the drama, glad to hear you're going Pro. Isn't Evel in Rancho, that could be trouble.
Don't know if it's proper to say sorry or congratulations, so I'll say both. Glad to hear you'll still be doing the event coverage, your the best. As far as the new business goes I'm sure you'll find great satisfaction doing it, I know I did. Be sure to let us know when the shirts are ready .I'm a sucker for XXL. Oh yea, about the woman thing. I'll just say that when the right one comes along life will take on a meaning that only the happily married could convey to you. From experience, when it happens, life will take on a whole new meaning and you'll wonder how you ever existed without it. I'm sure the right one is out there for you and she'll arrive when you least expect it. Just let it happen. Good luck, on everything. Frank
Lemonade? Sounds like your gonna make champagne!!!!! When I saw this thread,I thought it was about your Roadster! I had no idea about the other stuff. Hope it works out for you,Don. I think you'll do just fine.... I'll definately be getting a few shirts from you!!!
Good luck with your venture and I commend you for not giving up. I'm divorced and while it wasn't a bad one, I have NEVER been happier. I now have a cool girl who respects my hobby AND me. We have no plans to get married and life is great. Sounds like you got your head on right and I know you'll do well at whatever you set your mind to. Keep 'em flying, man.
You got another brother besides Sam? Lucky Devil. You'll do well. We both know that Visalia is a hot bed of hot rodding and not far behind Fresno and Bakersfield. Not to mention the smaller communities in the area. There's a good paint shop in Reedley. Rods. Good guy to know. Newberrys Performance Muffler on the Highway 198 frontage road - Mineral King Blvd I believe, it's right next to the Visalia Swap Meet. People from all over the valley bring their hot rods in for muffs and the like. I doubt if you'd find a better place anywhere in the valley. Tell Elroy Jay says hello. Al at the Farmersville Speed Shop is a good guy as well. Fair and smart. Lotta History with Al, he's been drag racing a long time and you'll find more than a few interesting and hard to find parts there. Drop in on a weekday when there's time to visit.
Good to hear Don, You've got my support! I'll be up that way this Friday-Sunday. I'll stop try to stop by. Did you get your car fixed?
hey don.... when i read the title of this thread i thought i was in for an update on the roadster. having read it i see that has been the least on your troubles, that's a load of lemon's alright. best of luck on everything man, mike
Hey Don. I've had the misfortune to work at three companies over the years that have closed. I've always said that everybody should experience it once. I think they would appreciate some of the simpler things in life. And as in your case use the job loss to your advantage. Would you be as excited as you are now if you were still working at the job you lost? When I first read the title of the post I was thinking some kind illness. Sounds like you must be reasonably healthy and that's a big part of the battle. Best of luck to you in your new endevour.
I have enjoyed yours pictures on the web site. Hope all goes well on the Rod shop. Wish I was 10 years younger I would do the same.
It's very true that I would have never considered doing this were it not for the situation with the job loss and pending divorce. I've never been much of a risk taker when it came to my job. Now that I literally have nothing to lose, it doesn't seem like such a risk. I do have reasonably good health as well as the support of family and lots of friends. I'm looking forward to this being a very successful adventure.
Yup, Dana is my younger brother; Derron, AKA Sam, is the youngest. I still tell people that I am their little brother since they are both bigger than me ;D
I won't be there until the first of July. You can stop by and see my brother's shop though. 3D Sand Cars 8228 W. Doe Ave Visalia, CA The roadster's not fixed yet. Fixed enough to move but not enough to drive. See the smashed deuce thread for updates.
Don...I haven't spent a lot of time with you but the time I have spent bullshitting with you [and Palfreyman, RIP] told me you're knowedgable enough to pull this venture off. I have faith in your abililty to make a go of it. You have enough connections both local and national to get your parts/supplies at a decent price and you know where there's a lotta shit stashed. You've been around the hobby long enough to rub shoulders with some heavy hitters that can afford to have their hot rods built/repaired by an outside shop....your shop.Hell, everyone knows you........you almost won the magazine hotrod contest thingy with your model A until you backed it into the wall, damn neart killing yourself but even that was news and publicity [even bad publicity] means everything. Jump in! Whaddya got to lose?
Don! I just read this today. Good luck, man. You have done so much to keep everyone outside of Southern California up to date on what's happening. Best regards. Cris
Just saw this thread - Best of luck to you with the new venture! I've been "starving for myself" all my adult life, there's nothing like it and think you'll take right to it Al in CT
Don, Best of luck to you on your new adventure. Life has a funny way about it, when one door closes usually another door opens wide. Glad to hear you are seizing the opportunity. This seems to be a perfect fit. Chuck
