We've been getting a lot of scammers on board with stupid posts about movies, etc lately.........every forum is having this problem, and they usually sneak in between midnight and 6 am.

One thing that I didn't know until the Mod's PM'd me is that we don't want to post anything on that thread because you run the risk of some of your stuff being deleted when they zap the offender. I know it is tempting to tell the idiot to get lost, or to post "reported" so other members know it has been done, but I guess that can cause you some issues.

Just thought I would pass along what was told to me to keep anyone else from having any problems as a result of these jerks coming on board.

    Reported.

    :D

Thanks for the heads up!! I guess it's better to not give them the satisfaction!!

  6. I always just report them without posting something that would drive it back to the top anyway.

    <!-- message -->Please dont.

The Threads are easier to Delete when there are no replies on it.

And if we'd miss the fact that it has a reply on it, the User who replied could accidently get a lifetime Spammer Ban.
( which can all be reversed, but there could be a loss of posted pics, etc.
And it would be a lot of hassle )

So dont post "Reported", or start messing with the low life Spammer.

    As tempting as it is...;)

But please do keep Reporting them.

    Thanks.:)

What's up with those little red boxes with X's in them that the scammers post ? If you click on those does something bad happen, like a virus, or what ?

    Don

  11. normally a Little box with a red X means that your browser doesn't recognize the picture host so you can't see the picture

    I recieved a reply from a C/L ad that I had submitted.
    the reply said,

"Where exactly can I see your 07 Great Dane 53' trailer - $8000 (Chicopee)? I live near.
Reply with your phone number where I can reach you after 5PM
I will pay with cash on spot, no paypal or check ".

I became suspicious as they copied and pasted my subject line. Also mentioned paypal which is a no no on C/L

I am wondering just what they were looking for and how they would use it?

Hm I always do that when responding to any ad. I've always figured that would get their attention as to what the email or pm was about

Yeah, I never realize it either, Beaner, until Metalshapes sent me that PM. I just didn't want anyone to have their stuff deleted because of one of these idiots.

  19. Son is a geek does some deep stuff with these machines. To deep for me to understand. I told him one day I had slammed several spammers. He said to just ignore them. I says no way I'm messing with them. He uses his other voice and says DAh that's just what they want you people to do. I quit. Don't want to get sent to the home yet..........

  20. Another thing that one should be aware of is clicking on the links could cause you real headaches. The grandaughter went to one of thse free movies from a link a couple of years ago and I finally ended up wiping her computer to get the crap off of it.

I guess I better quit stringing these spammer turds along. I get to see a lot of those little red x's on here while at work.

People say porn sites are bad for getting bugs in the computer, but I have gotten alerts when I am surfing just normal sites too. Since I am single I go on line and get recipes a lot (yeah, I know, but I have to eat:eek:) and my Microsoft Security Essentials goes off fairly often on those places. BTW, that program is free and has saved me from getting viruses a whole bunch of times.........I strongly recommend it.

  23. There is little point in "messing" with the spammer or "stringing them along". These messages are posted by spambots, not humans. If you click on the links, then you can mess with them all you want, but then they have your number and you're pretty much screwed.

Beaner- that's funny you mention that, I had to do the same to my lap top. I had fallen for their scheme and clicked on a link. When I saw it wasn't what I was looking for I deleted it. A few weeks later I was sitting in a crowded Panera Bread Restaurant early one Saturday using their free WiFi when all of a sudden this porn movie pops up complete with sound. Mine and my wife's eyes got big and we were both reaching for and punching every button we could (and by the way, not having much luck finding that tiny volume button). I finally hit the power button and it died after a few extra very long seconds. We breathed a sigh of relief then looked around and saw that half the place had sprayed their cappucinos and lattes all over their books, newspapers and breakfast companions, and were staring at us wide eyed and mad. My wife started to giggle then we both burst into full blown laughter. Well, so much for a nice quiet early morning bagel.

  25. I just installed a new printer this afternoon and man there sure was a lot of crap and dust behind the PC. Wiped it all down too. I think i need to dust out the inside as well. My garage floor is cleaner. Yes , the grandkids know more about the thing than i do.

I do too and have never had a problem with it. The way my laptop is set up I can't answer directly from CL and have to copy and paste it into my own email.

ON the heads up, I knew that but thanks for the reminder as it's tempting to answer those.

    Thanks for posting this Don.

We try to be carefull, but we zap a lot of Spammers.

And I'd hate to accidently do any damage to anybody's account.

    But please keep Reporting them.

Having you guys find them and letting us know helps us to get rid of them quicker.

It isnt perfect, but thats all we can do right now...
