Bump back up. A new spam is up top, and two guys replied so far... they did not read this thread, it seems.
Ya, well, NOW I see this thread! I just posted to a spam thread. Oops. Lesson learned for next time. Glad someone put this up here.
There was a good one today. "Cure for aids found in Norway" last time I checked aids isn't pre 64 Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Just to clairify what Don said you said hitting the REPORT ****on is OK, or can something happen to threads I've posted on? I have hit REPORT in the past when I see a SPAM topic, and will in the future if I know my stuff is safe. I think it is part of everyone keeping the HAMB running well. Bob
No, you are safe hitting the report ****on, that lets the mods know an idiot is on board. Just don't post anything on that thread, like telling them to get lost or even typing the word "reported". That opens you up to the slim possibility your stuff might get caught up in the zapping. I thought I was doing a good thing by typing "reported" as a post, so everyone would know it had already been done, but then Metalshapes let me know otherwise. Don "Thanks Don, is nothing safe any more ? Cheers,JW " As wonderful as the internet is, unfortunately the scammers are out there and like to screw with us any chance they get.
I've reported those posts now and then; no sense replying to one and bumping it back up the board. Their goal is to get you to look at it and click, so letting it die and fall down the board defeats some of their purpose. I notice sometimes they try to sneak it in as a reply in a thread, too, maybe they copy a line or two from a previous post and stick their spam on the bottom.
Seriously, someone who spams a board doesn't come back to see what everyone had to say about their post, and to find out if they're being accepted by the community. Just let the post fade into obscurity.
Well at this particular time of day / night it sure is funny to see some of the wierd new screen names that show up under newest members. Some look like alien text.
Rule number 1 of the internet: don't feed the trolls. On a side note, Microsoft Security Essentials is the best anti-virus out there, free or not. When I was in school I had an internship and one of the things I was involved in was a comparison between Microsoft Security Essentials, Symantec (aka Norton), McAfee and Sophos, and MSE came out on top. And even better, it's free
Yeah, I do the same thing. Maybe that is why I rarely hear back from anyone, they think I am a scammer..... I just got a check in the mail for my Dana 44 Posi I am trying to sell.... Strange the check is for 2k more than I asked for the part..... Hmmm, you think there is a scam in the works.... Waiting to see what his next step is....
Hmmm, I got the same email last week. Didn't occur to me it could be a scam, what would they get from that?
Since there may be more geezers like me who never have reported a thread, and wouldn't have a clue how, is there a sticky on how to report? I see the "report" box on the threads, is that it? Most of the time, I get to the questionable threads after someone has already reported it, but I would like to know how to do this the right way if I ever need to. Thanks, Mike
We have had similar problems over o Ryan's other forum the Garage Journal and have posted similar warnings.
I'm still seeing members replying to SPAM threads and thought maybe this would help get the word out. It's understandable that not everyone reads the Questions & Suggestions threads. So I thought I might try changing my signature line temporarily to help spread the word. If some of the more active posters here would do this a lot more members will hopefully get the message. Feel free to copy & paste my signature and use it as your own.
Under the offender's username and avitar is this ****on on the left side of the page Click on the ****on and voila
