Cleaning the springs for the heads, retainers, connecting rods and nuts. I had them soaked in Diesel oil for a few weeks and now they are on the pot scrubbing cycle. If she only knew!! Shhhhhhhhhh!!! LOL!!! Hope I remember to take them out!!

ha! On a much different scale....,
That reminds me of some guy in Pasadena about 10 years ago that took his greasy Levis to the local landromat. He figured that they were so dirty that he'd help the detergent out by adding some gasoline into the washer.
    About 5 minutes later....BOOM!
He got thrown through a plate gl*** window and broke his leg.

Yes, the dishwasher is a very handy tool :) when she not around

  8. Dishwashers do make the best cheap parts washer. After the X left I took full advantage of the one I paid like 600 bucks for. Sure did a super nice job.

South park, you dont get this cause your whipped.

Hmmmm, that's a good idea for a shop tool. I find old dishwashers that still work fine all the time. It would make a cool under bench tool.

  14. Hey its got a sterilize cycle!!! Geees!!!! You guys are so frickin paranoid!!! I wonder what is in dishwashing soap? Probably more harmfull ingredients than a little oil. I saw a guy using a rubber glove to pump gas, is this what you guys will do next!!!!! I wonder what the dishwashing soap will do to my parts? Now I am worried!!! Sure dont want my Hemi feeling sick!!! LOL!!

  16. I wont let you clean your plates in my dishwaher!!! I have it on sterilize setting. Remember, this is a Bosche!!! Its still going and the parts are getting nice and clean. And it doesn't smell like diesel any more. Hmmm wonder if my 455 Pontiac block will fit in it?

After I polish parts I always run them threw the dishwasher to get the rouge off. Animal fat based hot water gets it right off. You have to do things out of the box sometimes.

Diesel or dish soap, I wonder which is more harmful? It's meant to sterilize organic matter, not fuel and solvents...being competent isn't the same as being scared...would it really have been that much trouble to clean those parts by hand?

  20. What the ****? Why is everyone so damned paranoid? I work on my dirty ol parts and then eat a sandwich and dont give it a second thought. Whats this world coming to? Its only a little bit of old oil and a bit of diesel. It may help lubricate your innards. LOL!

I did a set of bbc valve covers a few months ago but after I stripped them outside and washed them by hand in the sink first. It did get inbetween the fins pretty good.

    Ha ha that is cool!!!

  25. Dishwashing soap cuts down grease and oil. What is more harmful to the environment? A bunch of greasy towels, a bucket of solvent or just using the dishwasher? And yes it would be more trouble to clean these parts by hand. Actually I think that with the pre heated water and the dishwashing soap and being stainless , I will bet that the dishwasher will be as clean as it was before starting it.

  26. OK, come on over now!! Im going to cook up some soup...... in the dishwasher !!LOL!! I just take the hose off of the garbage disposal and when it is on the discharge cycle, it just fills up your bowl or bucket!! I use Top ramen and add extra ingredients!!! You'll like it!! LOL!

  27. Oh my god!!!! You washed your parts in the sink? What were you thinking? Did you get a new sink afterwards? Anything that gets put in the sink can and will be contaminated!! Hope you dont have any kids!! LOL!

  28. Hey maybe it should be tech tip of the week? LOL!

  29. I hope you dont wash your hands in the sink? Ever!! That would be even worse. LOL! Well gotta go and check out my parts!!
