I'm gathering parts for a late thirtys, early '40's, immediate pre war, '28 Model A roadster, '32 rails, flathead, quickchange etc. I kinda like 16" wires, but would like to run a dropped axle. I've searched the books, and have seen a couple with this combo, but they were late '40's, so probably had the axle dropped later and hadnt managed to "borrow" some '40 solid wheels yet. So when did the first dropped axle appear?
T axles were dropped in the early 30's, or possibly late 20's.... You can get the car fairly low on the 32 frame without a dropped axle though, reversed and flattened front spring... for it to actually look "pre-war" I would think a normal 32 axle would be more suited... Not saying it wasn't done, but its not widely accepted, so to most people the dropped axle will make your car look "post war" The quickchange really sets it later though then the axle would... Solid 40 type wheels were used pretty much as soon as they came out... good luck Zach
