Looks like a junkyard rust bucket. Back in the "day" it wasn't rusty, why do you thing it looks traditional now?

Interesting that if you completely disassembled a vintage firearm or guitar, stripped it, primed, chromed, powder coated, painted and polished it you would have devalued it to next to nothing, The original oxidized finish adds value.
In this arena, straight sheet metal and shiny paint seem to add value and even if it is the right shaped NEW metal.
Go figure... that is the way it is.
I vote, no Botox for your ride

    Seems to fit here too.

  4. LOL one of the men that I have respected in my life (they are few and far between) has called me asshole for over 40 years. I am neither proud or ashamed of it, I just figure if the shoe fits. Feeling a little like Cinderella today are we?

A lot of that actually depends on the actual historic value of the piece and its condition as far as function is concerned. If you look really close museums seldom show off unrestored originals they are cleaned up before they go in the case and more often then not they are cleaned and restored.

Nothing wrong with the OPs car or from what I have actually paid attention to with the cars that have been posted with the exception of the Southern Employment sedan.

Sometimes it is actually hard to follow a conversation on these threads, what most of us are talking about as far as being proud of junk is concerned is actual junk.

Let me ask you this, not you personally you in general, how many times have you cruised into the local drive in and got out of your car and puffed up like a rooster and hollered, "hey look at me I am driving around in a POS."

  7. I was a curmudgeon asshole before it was cool. And I also drove rusty heaps before it was cool. Man I had no idea I was ahead of the curve!

  9. Back to the OP's comments-I like your car the way it is-like you said-there is a story there and would be kind of a shame to 'cover it up'
I drove my car in primer for 7 years and noticed it was usually the same people asking the 'When Ya gonna paint it?' question. Like they were afraid to like it if it wasn't shiney I guess.

  10. LOL I had a car in primer more then once, I seldom park my cars at shows and cruises and it was always the same people who asked me and it was because they didn't like it that way.

I think that the average mindset when someone sees a car in primer is that it is on its way to being painted. Granted solid logic does not prevail on the internet but it is the logical conclusion that one might draw.

Boy I get that...seems people are more apt to walk up and touch my car than most, which doesn't bother me in the least. One things for sure, I don't have to worry about some kid touching my car, or if I'm tough enough to kick his dads ass when they do. Ive seen guys (and gals for that matter) scream like a banshee if someone inadvertently or otherwise touch their car. In fact I saw a guy come completely apart over someone breathing on a closed side window of a 34 3 window. I figure, if it made 85 years bashing around the countryside before I got it, not much short of smackin a bridge abutment will put it out of my wheelhouse when it comes to repairs...and if a kid touches my car, no screamin, threats, exchanging insurance cards or jail time for retribution. Whole other frame of mind.

If I were Ron Brown or HRP I'd NEVER paint those cars. They look great the way they are.

Perhaps I'd never paint either, especially not a pinstripe. Ron

I get folks hatin' on the fake patina, but I don't always agree. I say keep the patina. Mine had rattle can black before this, and the paint and fake patina on it now is me being bored and taking a day and doing what's seen here. Will I redo it again! I dunno. The body was a Frankenstein before I even got it. All the mechanical aspects are solid...it's a knockabout rod. I know posting in this thread will put me in the burn book, oh well. I'm saving my choice parts for my next build. This one is always in progress:

I did have a car that was rattle canned black once. It had panels from 3 or 4 different cars. I was street racing it alot and it was a major heat score when it was multi-coloured, and the body was such a horrendous sack of shit I didnt want to bother putting any work into it. Besides, it was a Ford...It was more about indifference than any perceived "cool factor".
If a car is slow AND ugly, well...

Ah, elitist attitudes. Don't ya just love arrogance?

I wouldn't paint it just because I know it pisses people off.

  27. LOL A lot of the old timers already know this story but I'll let fly for the new regime. I had a '65 Galaxie that was a 50 footer. Actually Gary (rest his soul) dared me to power park at the good Guys KC, then paid my entry and kept me on hot dogs all weekend, and suggested that he needed a prize for the best use of an aging Earl Schieb job. I digress, I first tried to park near a bunch of Ford guys. They complained so loud that I went and found a place close to the restroom. A chebby club came and parked around me, they had some really spiffy old chebbys. I went off on a hike and came back about 3 hours later. the Chebby club had pulled out the heavy artillery and were busy cleaning and waxing my old heap. I asked what they were doing and they said, just cleaning your Ford up. I said not necessary really and the club President said, "we should have been paying closer attention, look at the other side." Hell CSI could have counted all the smudges and hand prints, there as even a chocolate hand print on the seat. I laughed my ass off and grabbed a rag and helped them clean it up. I also pointe out to the Pres that it really wasn't a problem my old heap was just what I drove around in.

Truth be told I am more likely to touch a car with good paint than a car with no paint or aging paint. The acid and oil in one's skin can wreak havoc on metal or anything porous.

Some of my most beautiful creations came out of utter boredom. Unless I got up close and personal with your roadster I would not have guessed that it is Faux-tina. Maybe not then. It doesn't look too fake from where I sit. ;)

I am probably not a hater, too old, maybe a naysayer. I figure that if a car still needs to be finished it had better be pretty fast, about 90% of the time (old farm trucks excluded, they are work horses). You know that they say, if it don't run chrome it. As I have stated I like old paint, I don't like decay. A well kept car is a different story all together, for example @metalshapes old hard topped roadster is smooth and totally paint less, he keeps it clean and free of rot. he is going to paint it someday, he cannot tell you when because he has yet to decide on a color.

@falcongeorge Nyaaah, nyaaah he just called you a half wit. :p

@Ron Brown we have completely run your thread off in the ditch. Getting back to the stripes, like I said I like them. if you really wanted to age them (as if the car wash won't ;) ) a slight rub with some 00 steel wool will age them really well, don't get too aggressive. I probably wouldn't cause what would be the point, they look fine the way that they are. love the old sedan by the way.
