    Well Jay,

I just changed the Wheels and tires from Big and Little Halibrands to 15x6" Cragars and pinner whites all the way around on the '54. It was done 5 years ago. But in reality a car is never done for me and is a rolling canvas for simple changes for your current style desires. Very few cares hit the perfect button when done for the builder. Even my in process '33 Tudor has already evolved from where it started. Flathead to Cadillac, Wires to Steelies, to Halibrand Smoothies this weekend, Three Speed to Four Speed, paint next. These two cars are the keepers, the finished cars per sey. So I gues in a long thought to answer your question is- Cars are never "all done" just wait a month.

I actually bought a car from another HAMB member which is an all original '63 Pontiac Grand Prix. When I bought the car, I had visions of lowering, custom paint and wheels. However, when I mentioned changing wheels from the original 8 lugs, all hell broke loose. Now I'm thinking about selling it as it is too nice to change.

Shoot, I drive them all the time, especially to the garages of those who still can't cruise and watch and listen to their problems! If you don't enjoy driving them, why don't you build a boat or plane or something else?

  16. Empty my garage and get rid of all the crap. Nothing hanging on the wall but wax rags. At least that's the plan.

You drive it, then think about ways to change it then spend your money doing pointless changes then something else breaks right after you blow all of your $ on something that you didn't need so then you are back to square one for a while until you have more $ to fix what broke, then while you're fixing what;s broke you find other things to also tweak and upgrade. NONE of our cars will ever be done, we are gearheads, even our dailys aren't done.

  21. Drive it indeed. They're never done. I need to switch out the hose and battery clamps on my '51 Merc. Then it will be done......til the next project!

I believe this is an enigma! Because even if a car has been restored to a 100 point show car and is sitting in a museum it still needs maintenance to keep it's inherent value.

  23. Yep..
Not sure I really want to completely finish one of my cars. I always seem to start on another one when I get really close to finishing off one. I think I subconsciously believe I would sell it if I finished it because I enjoy building them more than driving them. So I have a collection of "almost" finished cars.

I would probably spend too much time on the HAMB if I finished my cars...

Anything I've ever owned is never "Done", because I always have another idea or brain fart, same thing? I drive my cars, can't see having a car, that I can't drive. Fortunate enough to have more than one hobby car, so if I'm working on one, I can take the other, my other, is not a HAMB friendly car. Best personal plate on a car that I have seen was, "NVR DUN" , thought that pretty well covered it. Wish I would have thought of it. John

Have a friend who's into the "numbers correct" style of building OT 60's Camaros and the like. He also operates a business blasting and powder coating most anything, and has done some work for me.
He just can't understand why I wouldn't let him powder coat the frame on my "A" hiboy. Just couldn't comprehend my telling him that a true hot rod is never really finished and a powder coated frame would be a big problem if you ever wanted to make changes that involved welding on the frame.
You either have to start another build while you drive the one you've built, or modify the current build once in awhile. Otherwise you'll get bored with it and it'll sit in the garage and be in the way.

I always lose interest in a car when there's nothing left to do, find it a good home & move on to the next project.

  28. Winner! Winner! Chicken dinner!:D

  29. I don't think I've ever had a car that was all done...ever...in my life. It scares me a little to think about it. Will I lose my reason for living? I suspect I might have to sell it and drag home some other piece of shit just to give me a purpose. Hell, it's kind of depressing really.

Only ever had one totally done car. I finished it to sell to work on a car I liked more and needed parts money.
