Hot Rods Where and how did you mount your tach?

I think it depends on the build. Gasser style looks good on the dash. Street Machine style looks good hose clamped to the column. Personally, I prefer the column mount.

Didn't want to cut any additional holes in dash or mount on top of dash. Made a bracket on lower left bottom of dash for tach and a starter button. Tach is a old 765 model with sender mounted with fuse panel. Six grand was enough for the Nailhead.

Some pics I’ve saved over the years for inspiration.

I put mine in the middle of the console. I retrofit these gauges into the car and didn't want to cut up the dash or otherwise have gauge panels hanging off the bottom of the dash. Obviously they're out of my line sight, but this isn't a performance application and just having them there will at least tell me what I need to know. IMG_5453.jpg

Here is mine, on my 1957 pickup: cut up an exhaust pipe, welded it to the dash, and mounted a tach inside. Chrome bezel is from a metal travel cup.

Mine is conveniently located near the other gauges. Please disregard the red line, it just looks impressive. If it ever got near 5 grand it would be raining pistons in Phoenix.

  11. On the dash, there was a half inch hole in the dash, I think for the radio antenna? I took a 1/2" by 1 1/2" carraige bolt put it in a lathe, ground the square off, then bored a 3/8" hole thru the center and chamfered the opening a little. I made a plate to bolt the tach to and used the bolt, some rubber and washers to bolt it to the dash in the 1/2" hole. Then I used the 3/8" hole to run the wires thru. Gene.
Update...I started thinking about the hole size, thought 3/8 sounded a little big to me. So I went out and measured this morning. Correct size is 5/16". Memory please come back!

I went under the instrument panel like a few others. Being the obsessive dick that I am sometimes I had to have the tach and 1953 Sun vac gauge at the same hgt and face angles.

  14. On the dash..Made a little mount out of aluminum, polished it, and used a screw from the speaker to hold it on, tach bolts to that..have it angled to face me…wrapped the wire and ran that through the speaker grill..

Mines mounted where I can't see it, not a big deal. I listen to the engine.

  16. Here’s mine. Not much special but it’s out of the way and yet I can still see it when I’m driving .

On my roadster it's on the column in an aluminum cup

No hose clamps on this one,

On my OT dune buggy I stole an idea from @Moriarity on his wild ass Futurian. He didn't have anymore of these boat deck tach mounts in his inventory and the shop he purchased his cast aluminum ones from closed during the flu thingy and didn't reopen yet. So Mark sent me pictures and dimensions so we could built one.

I purchased a 3" diameter,45 degree, stainless steel street elbow from Summit and chopped it off to fit and @Pist-n-Broke tigged up a mount plate with 3 studs to fasten it to the deck. A little door edge molding around the base and tach firmly secured with silicone. Liberal amount of polishing of course. The result is a cool hood tach that stares you right in the kisser.

In my Chevelle I gutted the clock and installed a tach in it. 12 o'clock is 0, 1 o'clock is 1,000 rpm and so on.

Sure had a lot of fun in that car. Not sure I could get away with it now. Must be why I stick to the race car.
Traffic has changed a lot form back then around here.
