I'm not sure whether this has been a previous thread, but I'll offer a first go round. I am proposing a thread where we can ask for sources of 'stupid' things that you would think could be bought anywhere, but you can't find them ANYWHERE. My first request is for a source of the 5/16 X 24 X 1" button head bolts that bolt the 40's (and probably later) MoPar door hinges to the cowl. (I'd also like to hang the SOB that thought a Phillips head was a good idea.) In any case, ck image & indicate if you know of a source. 1/2 Fast Eddie
GREAT IDEA for a post! I can't help you with the screws you are looking for, sorry. Phillips head screws were designed to allow you to center the drill when you have to drill the pilot hole for an easy-out. Bob
I got most of my stuff at the local HW store. Anything specific is usually repoped and just to a google search like I did for ya. http://www.coxhardware.com/p-2299-516-24-button-head-socket-screws-chrome.aspx?p=5
You can also go to ttp://www.restorationspecialties.com/. They have tons of items. You have to download their on-line catalog.
These are not Phillips head and are for a '40 Ford but they have the same shape otherwise. I needed some for my '41 Ford station wagon and wanted some type of head that would be less likely to strip the slot when tightening or loosening. I found the same head shape with a torx head in grade 8 on Amazon. Hope that's some help. http://macsautoparts.com/search.asp?sb=0&ls=y&camid=F30&year=1940&make=Ford&ss=door+hinge+screw
Check out this place they have been supplying the automotive industry since 1936, they have just about everything...they sell worldwide, http://www.spaenaur.com/ Jim
Those look like Pozidrive fasteners. They have a squared off end of the cross slot whereas Phillips have pointed ones. I still have and cherish my red handled Snap On Pozidrive #1 and # 2 long and stubby screwdrivers. You could try Hillco fasteners.... www.hillcofasteners.com
