Planning on getting a 57 chevy step-side, Been too long since I've driven a "cool ride" And I finally decided that I'm gonna DO IT RIGHT From now on, Do it how I want, So.... Lowering! I've been told to get a cen-tech machined dropped axle (by rickyracer I think) But how much do these run and where can I pick one up? Are there any "better" dropped axles out there? Wasn't somebody on here a few weeks ago selling some axles like that or some such thing? Also, who sells a disc brake swap kit for these trucks? Any help you guys could give would be GREAT! Thanks!
The stock axle is dropped about 4" or so. Remove some leaves from the springs, and reverse the spring eyes on the main leaves. My Dad has a 54 Chevy he built back in the early 70's. Stock axle, four or fives leaves left in the stock front springs, and 15" wheels. Sidewalls of the 50 series tires are just starting to tuck into the fenders. MAS Racing Products has dropped tube axles with up to 7" drops. They advertise in Street Rodder, R&C too I think. Dean
You could get your stock one dropped, Elpolacko has a guy here in phoenix that drops axles relativly cheaply, he can also drill them to. Sorry i didn't call when I was in town(Labor Day weekend)I got swamped with family shit to do. -Jesse
Elpolacko does a great job on dropping axles. Just make sure that your axle ends for the kingpins are not worn out. Check that out before you do anything. That may be the determining factor of wether you have your original axle dropped or go with one from Worm. r
Metalshapes and I were just at Elpolacko's shop this past weekend picking up and axle that he just had done for us and it was perfect with excellant quality. Also my boss has a 57 cameo that he was going to drop the way you want to drop yours but decided not to. He has lowerd springs and some other hardware. Here is the number to the shop just give a call and you can talk to him about price of the stuff. Hall's Automotive 520-790-1885
