As the ***le states, I need to get a cracked block - and head on a Willys 77 engine welded/repaired so it can be used for restoration of this very rare 1933 Willys Roadster? Any help/leads and actual experience would be much appreciated Cheers fellas....
Thanks - all good suggestions but I was looking for places that do the work in house. I think these guys sub it out. I was also going to call Taylor Engines but I am sure they subcontract that work too.
it might help if you had a more pin pointed location? if your in the San fernando valley area, you might give jamie a call at fab tec welding in north ridge/canoga area...
slim from slims welding in simi valley is the best iron welder in the land.. nobody can wave a stick at him
There are more than that - there's at least one on the East coast, Pure Choice has one in Havasu, I have two. There's one I sold down the road apiece currently under restoration, Bob Panella may have one, there's one in Indiana - are the ones you know of in addition to this lot I've listed? Original production is listed as 74 units. There are still three I know of in Australia....
Last time I needed a cast iron engine part welded in So Cal, I had it done at Cyclone Excelsweld out on Arrow Highway in Baldwin Park. I don't know if they are still there, that was about 10 years ago. Back then they were the only place to take a cracked Mack diesel cylinder head or block. Hope that helps. B.
Yours (now two), Bob Panella had one although it may have been a 35-36. I saw it about 22yrs ago. and I sold a complete hulk of a shell at GoodGuys Indy about 11yrs ago. It had just the cowl, firewall, dash, windsheild, one door, two rough 1/4 panels and the weld in spare tire panel was there but cut out. It also had with it a bare Chuck Finders rectangular tube frame. Trying to remember who bought it. Thinking he was from northern central USA. He dealt with alot of Willys stuff. He had Bought a bunch of 33 stuff from my dad at the same show and previously.
call lloyd's welding in redondo beach. 310) 374-5944 also... Marsh Weldcraft in Hawthorne (310) 676-2391
I'll second this one, I have had them fix some non auto related items that I was convinced was a lost cause and the y turned out really good.
I dont want to sound like an ***, but i cant see it being that hart to find early willys parts since everyone seems to build rods outta them, Somebody on here has to have a decent head. Btw what years/models fit?? i know atleast one local guy that is rodding a willys
The 1928-1939 Willys L134 heads have a different head bolt pattern to the later 61 and then 63hp heads. So the answer is that any kind of original Willys part from 1933-1936 - during the era of the Model 77 is really tough to find. You just never see them and networking with other Willys owners is about the only way to go. I am still looking for an original 1933/34 or possible 1935 frame and an original 1933-36 rear end....
If all else fails in SO Cal there is American Cylinder Head in Oakland, they do their work in house, I've had tractor heads repaired there, I don't know how big he can do, the block on that Willys isn't much bigger than some tractor heads.

I would not recommend Marsh Weldcraft to nobody....I went to Larry from Marsh Weldcraft because I thought that someone in business for 45 years would be a good place to go. WRONG! I gave him 10 aluminum oil tank to weld; When I picked them up I was chocked by the poor quality of the weld. None of the bungs he welded where aligned (I mean beyond bad!), some where burned thru and needed to be re-threaded. Over all he welds were not consistent and look very amateur.....But the worse thing he did was not being careful at handling the tanks, 4 of them had major dents and could not be fixed, 6 of them were deeply gouge and I was able to sand down 4 of them. Conclusion out of 10 tanks he welded I sold 4 at a loss and discarded the rest. Stay away from Marsh Weldcraft if you need professional work.
