I know growing up i spent my whole life around old tin and realized at about the age of 10 that hot rodding was going to be a part of my world for the rest of my life when my dad and me and my brothers built first, my brothers 57 chevy and then went on to build my 53 f-100. Well i have grown up(a little bit)and my f-100 needs a paint job, a little motor work, a little interior work, and just a little bit of care and then i hear of this jalopy journal that my brother let me know about, and if it wasn't for some of the post hear i would have been lost in the dirt on some of my reconstruction of my truck. I'm just wondering if the jalopy journal has some how affected you(i know in some way or another it has)and where you heard of it?

I believe that it was a link from Christian's Primer Mag out of Belgium,
His e-zine was a good one too, I miss that one as well as its board, Oh well Life goes on.

I originally heard about it from my wife who had heard about it from a jackass that worked for me . He had told her about the 'board' for getting my name 'out there' and for people to be familiar with the shop.
Funny- he also told her she wouldnt be good on the board. 'They' were a tough crowd and would eat her alive... . Now thats funny.

I cant even begin to express what I have learned from this group. That there are others like me out there,a large contingency of hard working car crazed people who have automatically treated me as a brother - just because of the HAMB. For that I cant thank Ryan enough for the insigh to start a family- online.

And as for the jackass? No idea... He crawled back under his rock .
HAMB members are welcomed to visit my shop anytime, call or email me- you guys (and girls) are the best thing ever.

I kept seeing it popping up in R&C articles and other mags and wondered what the HAMB thing was all about. I searched H.A.M.B. and found junk. After seeing all of the Michigan folks in the Ego Rama with Denise I knew it had to be here somewhere!

I've met a ton of great folks, bought 4 projects, sold 1, and learned a ton of ideas and plans from some amazing talents. Also been bitched at by some stupid asses but, hey, at least they're talking to me.

And now my kids have an electric guitar and want to be Elvis Hitler type miscreants. Next thing is to get them to learn how to stripe.

  5. When Ryan took over the Garage Journal. I spent alot of time there planning my new garage. I've been a hot rodder forever, just hadn't heard about the hamb.

    I love this place!

I surfed by here and lurked a bit around 2001.
My friend klazurfer brought it up one day and asked if I where on.
After that day I registered and have had a lot of FUN.

I'm spreading the gospel myself everytime I have a chance.

I think it was in Hot Rod/Car Kulture Deluxe back when they first came out in 1999 or 2000 or so. They were showing an event of some sort the HAMB was putting on, a HAMB Drag I think and I came on to check it out and have been lurking ever since.

When I first learned how to use a computer and surf the net (about 1996) I used one of the search engines for "hot rods" and found the Jalopy Journal. I contacted Ryan with some pix of my yellow '40 Ford coupe as he was looking for cars to feature.
I wrote up a blurb for him and sent in the pix. He did a nice3 feature on my car that was on the Journal for years and I've been here ever since, but I didn't join the HAMB until later on.

  16. A non rat rod rat rod site. Several members referred to this place as a bad place, it seems decent to me so I hang out here when time permits.

  17. Littleman showed me the light, on many things. Thankyou!

  18. There was another RRT before the current one and I heard about the hamb over there. 1999 it was. Anyway I found the JJ after lurking here for a while.

Lots of good stuff, lots of good people, it beats the hell outa buying magazines. The ability to interact is great.

I was surfing the net looking for ideas for ways to hotrod the '36 Chevy truck I ghad just bought.
One of the pictures I saw was of the Shifters and their president's Caddy flathead ride. Looking for the Caddy flathead and speed parts for it brought me here.
I too am VERY GRATEFUL for the freindships, the tutoring, and even the ass whups I got here. Some of them ass-whoops kept me from dong some serious stupid things. The tutoring and education I have received here its priceless to me. And I STILL don't know shit.

Heard about it from a guy at the Round up in 05. This guy was just walking down the side walk and stopped and asked if me and my buddies had heard of it and the rest is history. Been here ever since.

My friend Darryl hooked me up back in the later 90's. It was a cool place. Ryan posted lots of pics and had great stuff on his 38.

Longtime HAMB member JohnB was over and showed me the HAMB. That was about 2000 or 2001. I didn't care for the fact that everyone was mean to each other (my perception, not knowing the dynamics) Didn't revisit the place till very late in 2001 when I heard thru the grapevine folks on the HAMB were talking trash about how I was going to "streetrod" Big Olds. Started lurking regularly the begining of 2002. Was finally convinced by GERM that the HAMB should be my hot rod "home". I took 2 or 3 months to write my intro and posted it in late 2002. It was a hit and I was accepted with open arms. Been here ever since.:D

I found TJJ and the HAMB through a link on the old Kustoms By TSR site back in about 1999. Viva la HAMB!

I was told by an unknown fellow at a swap meet to check it out while talking to him about making my F1 brakes fit my spindles.

Glad I talked to that guy!

Every time I did a search for an answer about my '46 truck, this H.A.M.B. site kept popping up. Flatty questions, suspensions questions, top chops, anything. That H.A.M.B. thing kept haunting me until I sat down to read the forums. I got stuck there for hours. Still stuck here, with the occasional shower and meal. I can't get away from it. Now all I think about are AV8's, Holley 94's and quick change rears. I always loved this stuff, since day one. but I went from putting AFR heads on my Mustang to get 400+ hp to putting 3 deuces on a flathead and hoping for 150 hp.
