Hi everyone! This is my first post here, but I've been into trad stuff for a long time. For the past three years I've been driving a '51 Ford F1 pickup, with rusty chrome rims, greasy bone-stock flathead, and old red paint that sort of looks shiny. For as long as I've had the truck, I've been hoping to find some cool old-school guys to hang out with, but all I find at the usual cruise nights (Elmhurst and Downers Grove, mainly) are the $50,000-billet-barge dudes. Tired of cruising alone. Any thoughts?
The "Trad" scene as far as cars go, is mainly consentrated on Saturdays at the "Woodfire Chicken". Nice cruise spot in Itasca. It's on Rowling rd. south of the Metra station. I'll PM ya better directions later. I guess I'll break the news on "Intros". This isn't a Internet dating service where everyone kinda hides behind screen names. A proper Intro consists of a more detailed member profile, tell us who you are, what ya got( ya did do that ),a little about yourself, job, are ya married with a family, ect, ect. Also a big plus is pics of your ride or project. This is a great place with quite a few friendships made and HAMB'r activities inside most car events around the country. It's like a Brotherhood, like a extended family only we're all Hoodlums! Anyway, welcome hope to see ya around. Joel
Yeah and we have been trying to do something with Superdawg on Milwaukee and Devon on Fri nites, but not too many people have a running car as of right now! Your truck does look pretty nice in that pic! I cruise everywhere in my '60 Comet with its rusty paint. It kinda shines when its wet! Duane
Peter Pan is right. Check out woodfire. Abomber has been oganizing some happenins out by his place near Dekalb once a month (watch for his posts) The Blacktop Barons host a rockabilly/cruise night the 3rd Tuesday of every month down in Palinfield. I DJ and my (and Django's) band occ***ionally plays. There's also the Big C Jamboree which is the 1st Thursday of every month. It's a big rockabilly show that a lot of HAMBers go to with or without cars.
The Wednesday night was Cool in Elmhurst. Thanks for the info. Had a pretty good time the other night.
Yeah, Elmhurst can be fun but don't expect much trad stuff. I was looked down on plenty of times when I took my '46 there by the MYCHROMEBILLICOSTMORETHANYOURCAR crowd. I've seen it all there though. Cars pulled from a barn up to $60k Magazine coverage Camaros. Yeah, come to big C next thursday. Hellfish and I will be playing this month.
I would suggest Lake Geneva, WI..., No car scene there..., but plenty of "EYE CANDY" by the lake...! Mark
Woodfire tonite! I will be there rain or no rain! Gotta love those vacuum wipers, they are kind of a safety device when the roads are wet, if you want them to wipe, tou have to slow down! Now just to find one of those "click it or ticket" road blocks to have fun! Duane 60 Comet- No seat belts, no ABS, no air bags, no radio, no reverse lites and no heater! LOVE IT!
