No need to spend the Big Bucks for a fancy, super-dooper wiring "kit"...I can handle the task of making a harness to run my Chevy and the few lights I'm electing to have operational, as well as an accessory fuse panel for a radio and a heater motor in the future!

What I need to know, is where do you get GOOD quality 10, 12 and 14 gauge automotive wire in various colors? The local parts joint carries red, blue, black and yellow. I'd like to add white, green, brown and grey to that list if I could to allow for easy color coding as I go.

Is there a mail order outlet, or somewhere in the Metro Detroit area to buy colored automotive quality wire in various sizes? (I never use anything smaller than 14 gauge...Mr Overkill, ya know!).

    Thanks in advance... [IMG]

A couple of projects that I have done wiring to, I used the solderable trailer wiring kit for headlights, taillights, signals etc. The kits are around $20-30 and are available at most parts stores and trailer supplies. What makes these kits nice is that the wiring is durable and is tied together into a ribbon, not to mention that it usually comes in 25 foot lengths. The usual colors on those are brown, white, green and yellow. Its a cheap way of doing it, and it minimizes the headaches! -Joe

  6. HAck. There is a place called Termanal Supply. They are on Thunderbird drive. 15 mi and livernois. They have everything you can imagine when it comes to automotive wiring. They also have a rack in the front where you can buy close outs and misc. rolls and assorted termanals at a good discount.

I have the no. at work if you can't find them call me and I'll have more info.

Delaware George - old looking new wire (braided lacguer type) can be found at Narraganset wire co (don't know where they are). Also try American Autowire - they have kits with the old looking wire and maybe sell just the wire 800-482-wire

Fat Hack - JC Whitney sells wire in many different colors and sizes. I bought some from them and it was as good as any wire I have ever bought.

  14. A few years ago, at the joint I used to work at, they could still get looms from AC/Delco of the cloth wrapped stuff. Brand new, in factory boxes... check with your local AC/Delco supplier maybe? [IMG]
