The last set of tires and tubes I got from Coker they sent four G/K-16 tubes along with the 500-16 and 750-16 Firestones. I thought it was a mistake at first...the tubes are just too big for the 500's, the uninflated tube is bigger than the ****in' tire. I called 'em up and they said thats what they sell for them now. So I used the tubes and mounted them up. I had one blow out crossing Nevada with about 250 miles on the tire. Pulled the wheel and headed into Lovelock where I had a tire shop remount the tire with a spare tube I brought along. That tire started going flat within 100 miles. I made the rest of the trip on it (about 800 miles) using a few cans of fix-a-flat along the way. When I pulled the tube I could see it had been all wrinkled in a couple spots around the outside, and was leaking from one of the sharp folds. Along with not carrying the smaller tubes any more, the tubes from Coker were really thin, with the ****ty little 1/2" valve stems. Has any one else had problems with these tubes? What size do you use on a 500-16? And where do you get 'em?
i got mine from Farmers Union aka Cenex station. they are hevy dudty farm style stuff but they had them small enough.
[ QUOTE ] I bought mine from a regular tire store they were able to order it for me. [/ QUOTE ] IF you have a place order them for you, make sure you find out where they're coming from. A lot of places order that kind of stuff from Coker.
Fergit that junk! Order a set of Cl***ico racing tubes. Used on vintage race cars the world over. Available in the US from a few high-buck companies that cater to rich vintage racing enthusists, but worth it. http://www.rogerkrausracing.com/Cl***ico.html
Yeah, they are expensive, but if you're putting them inside a $329.00 tire, it puts them in proportion.
Well it was only $40 for the rubber valve stem versions, still a little rich for my cheap ***. But I'll keep that site bookmarked Jason. Does anyone know what size tube Coker used to sell with the 500-16 tires. They used come with a nice small (15" I think) tube, but I can't remember the size.
Well I went out and dug through a couple of piles and came up with an F/R-15 tube, called Loyds and they have 'em for about $9. So off I go.
I had a flat in Ocean City Maryland, a tourist town. I walked into a Western Auto store and the lady pulled one off the shelf...less than 20 bucks. it shocked me that they had it in stock.
I just picked up a couple of FR-15 tubes at the tire shop for $8 a piece, they worked fine. I couldn't beleive those giant tubes Coker sent...bigger than the damn tire!
[ QUOTE ] I buy tubes from my local Fleet Farm store..around $11.00 depending on size... [/ QUOTE ] I miss Fleet Farm/Farm Fleet.... only place i found valve stems to convert tube rims to tubless..
Hmmm, and just recently the Coker guy was on other boards talking about how great their service is, how great their product is, how they stand behind what they sell blah blah. The expensive racing ones mentioned above from what I have heard seem to be the trick set up...of course something that fits would work also (did you get that idea there Coker ) BTW, I am no legal mind or anything and not into doing things like taking McDonalds to court because the coffee was too hot when I spilt it but if they told you those were the tubes and you had wreaked and as it sounds the blame would be on the tube would this not open Coker up to the same sort of nonsense Firestone has gone through? Seems Coker would try a bit harder in todays world...ah well.
