  2. I finally found the throttle body gasket to my wife's 4runner in the sand blaster.. I don't remember putting it there. Thing usually show up right after I install the replacement.

It was way worse when the garage had dirt floors.

New record. I spent half an hour frantically searching for a small bag of screws-until my wife pointed out I had them in my left hand with a couple of other bits of trash I'd sorted off the counter. Go and figure.

    Root,
I always seem to find what I lost right after I bought a brand new replacment.
    DAMN!

  5. That's usually how it works. I replaced a driver's liscense and bank cards - and found my wallet shortly after. One time, my wallet ended up under some stuff in a drawer halfway across the room from where it should have been. Just lately, I made a tape of the new Bob Seger CD and backed it up with Shooter Jennings.. somewhere between where I set it down to take to the truck and the truck, it's vanished. Tape, case and all. Don't even ask about the garage.

Although, I have two black holes working there, one is the ghosts or whatever that play games hiding shit on us, the other is my dad who likes to clean up things and organize stuff, then forget what he even touched. Somewhere I have a couple model car kits I got to take to the car shows, this year, that he put away, doesn't remember where, and I can't find. Maybe I'll find them in time for next year.

Now if I just knew where my deep well sockets were going... I used to have a 3/8ths and 7/16ths.. good thing '57 DeSoto taillights use speed nuts and come loose by hand with a short socket...

Consider yourself lucky, that sure will not happen with the new part that I bought and can not find.
I do believe in the garage floor monster more than I do the black hole theory. I think mine must feel sorry for me every now and then, as something that I have searched for and not found, will be laying right where I needed it the next day:D

My "monster" seems to have a thing for safety glasses and 3/8" drive extensions... it likes to move those things around when I'm not looking.

I wonder if they can't see yellow, or just don't like it? I had a pair of yellow-framed safety glasses for a while, and those never got moved from anywhere I put them. My yellow-handled Snap-On screwdrivers (bought for this very purpose) seem to stay put better than others as well.

Don't worry, you'll find it as soon as you buy a replacement. :D Isn't that how it always works?

Someone stole, or shot, Cindy's bloodhound Daisy Mae. Wasn't me. She would come into the shop looking down and from side to side quickly looking for something to steal and run with before I saw her and started yelling. She had a big, strong mouth, car parts were nothing to her.
When we moved I found a BBQ grille part in my recliner, under the side arm & cushion, that I had lost. Putting it together in the house, couldn't find the part, made one. Also found a pair of prescription reading glasses in one of my wife's work boots, had been missing for a year.
This weekend @ Rosanky I found out what happened to the old Sun RC tach I have been looking for everywhere. My buddies told me I sold it and the transmitter there last year at the Rosanky swap meet.

    I have two theories on this Root ;

1- I keep the trash can as far away from what I'm working on as possible because inevitably , stuff just ends up in there .We don't mean to do it but can't help it .some how we only feel like we're making progress if the can is full .

2- Some of us are inclined to sabotage ourselves in order to make our lives more challenging ( insert dumbass here ) . We measure our progress by how hard our tasks are . The harder something is to accomplish , the better it will feel to be done with it. e.g where is that pencil?

I have personally fallen victim to both of the above, I think . Either that or I got Hillbilly gnomes livin in my rafters. o.k. three theories .LOL

He says " Boy I sure hope it didn't get thrown away by someone on accident, cause it kinda looks like trash"......

I knew that i wasn't the only one that happens to. Got more "spares" on the shelf that way
It's usually a case of.."where did i put that widget?" or, "which project is this for?" Got to write on the box what fits what, ie..69 pickup oil sender, duraspark pickup...etc. Catalogs are handy....if i don't loose them:D

i've got a pretty good collection of trim screws, nuts and bolts, etc. got in the habit of taking some extras from the junkyards back when you could still find stuff like that in the yards.
it's my protection against the shadow man. he likes to hide in the shadows and when i turn around he'll snatch up a bolt or screw or whatever. at least he likes to move my tools around and not outright steal them.

sometimes i do it to myself unknowingly. in hurry to test the falcon out after bleeding the brakes. driving down the road. bling blinggg blinggg a ding. damn, that sounds alot like my 3/8 wrench bouncing down the street. forgot to take it off the bleed screw. rescued it though, all safe downstairs in the box.

    gary.

I could have built 3 more cars in my lifetime just in the time that I have spent looking for stuff. I'd have had the money to build them cause I wouldn't have wasted all that money on duplicate parts!!
