To most it's just an old building. To me it's a part of my youth. The place my cousin Larry and I would drool over lake pipes, Moon and Flipper hubcaps, multi carb intakes and tons of J.C. Whitneyesque eye candy. Davis Auto Supply was the place to buy auto accesories and speed gear in the 50's and 60's around here.

Was cruising by this morning and decided to snap a pic for posterity. It's been closed for years and I ***ume sometime in the future will be torn down when someone in the comunnity decides it's an eyesore but for me it brings back a lot of memories. Maybe it'll spark a few memories of your old haunts as well.

Yup, George...those of us old enough to have been so fortunate to have these great old places of our youth, even if they are empty still speak to us.
I still in a two mile radius of where I've always lived, born in Pasadena, lived in Arcadia from 1950-1973, and Sierra Madre 1973 to today....

In 1953 Don Nicholson and his brother Harold ran the Nicholson Brothers Speed Shop, long before Don became "Dyno Don". Harold was killed in a drag racing accident shortly after they opened this shop in Arcadia.

thankfully the building is still there today...this was in 2008

and across the street, on the left in the photo (below) was the Art Carr transmission shop, "Arcadia Transmission". Art made some of the baddest ******s ever for the mid-1960's g***ers and other drag cars. The Wheelstander, Chuck Wagon", the Anglia of the Kohler Brothers and many others were regulars.
I worked just to the left of Art's shop in a gas station when I was in high school 1966-68 and they used La Porte Ave. as a "test track" occasionally.
Sometimes the cops would come by to watch a g***er do a "test" in the street. Every day when I was at the gas station there was always something *****in in the shop. Sometimes I even got a snoot full of nitro.
That was a magic little neighborhood.
Just to the right of Nicholson's shop is still Arcadia Auto Body shop, which was Ollie Prathers shop who use to field an Indy car. Yup, he build an Indy car in there. Up in the rafters are tons of kids peddle cars. His son still runs the shop today and has expanded into the old Nicholson building.

What a time to be a teenager...good grief....I was in heaven

Mine was Big Foots junkyard in Knoxville..a scary place when I used to go there with my dad in the 60s.there was a separate room to the right when you walked in that was full of cool stuff.Lee taillight lenses,intakes,lakes,two-tone pillows for your package tray,shifters..everything I saw in the HR and CC ads was hanging on the walls..In the late 70s,acting on a tip,I went in and asked for skirts for a 50 Merc. The old guy laughed his *** off, told me to take a hike, there wasn't a chance in Hell that they had them.An ex employee had told me they were there,NOS Foxcrafts, and even told me where they were stashed in the back.I told the old guy which shelf they were on,he gave me a **** you look, and went in the back.Came back a minute later, threw them on the counter, and told me I didn't look like I could afford them, they were $20 for the pair.
    Yeah,I still have them.
Wish I'd bought everything in that room.
There's still a junkyard there, but I haven't been back since right after Big Foot died.It wasn't the same after then.
