I've been driving my 59 Plymouth Suburban with a bad steering column insulator bushing. It has power steering btw. It's like having a bad rag joint causing lots of play in the steering wheel. After the 4 hours towing to the HAMB drags and the 4 hours towing home I've had it! Where is a good place to get the insulator bushing? I'm not finding much online. Thanks, Kerry
I don't have the column apart and out yet but here's a couple of pictures from the web. The first a good one ***embled between the column and the steering shaft. The second a squished one.
Part of me is wondering if I could/should just make one out of steel. Bad idea? I really don't care if vibration comes through the steering column.
Their online catalog doesn't show that number, even if you search for it. I'll give them a call later and see if they still stock it.
Dimensions? Could you just get some rubber sheet from a conveyor belt supply and bend it around the end of the inner shaft? Or is the thickness different over the width of the insulator?
I think there is a rounded part in the center. I just got a call from Gary's and they have it! Ordered one and a catalog. I have to say learning Mopar is an experience. Whoever came up with how this column ***embles and dis***embles had some serious issues!
What the heck??? I see a serpentine belt and have no idea what a low voltage insulator bushing. Exactly what type of car and year are you talking about? I did get the bushing, shimmed it about .030 with some flashing, and got it all back together. It's a whole different car!!! It's still a late fifties Plymouth and steers as such but is a pleasure to drive now. I need to get her in for an alignment now.
Chinese manufacturer trying to link to their company website but failed. Check the other post they made about about battery tenders. All one big lie! See were "low voltage insulator" is bold? that is supposed to be the link but they missed. They made it on the other post.
