A little history: In 1971 I built a tupperware ""T". (after a couple of unfinished projects). Sold it in late '73. In '73 I found and bought as straight and solid '34 tudor as money could buy. Built and rebuilt it and ran across an old '34 roadster. Sold the 2dr in march of '80 and started on the road ster. Drove roadster until sometime in '89 and sold it. Early 2000's I started collecting parts and ***embled a '32 p.u. I got the cabrio body from my nephew in march of '13. Spent a year re-doing the body/ch***is. Drove it last year and will do so this summer. (sold the pu in dec/'12) Brings me to this point in time and venture: I've done about all I want to do and am able To do with this car. Its not necessarily what I want for the "last car" I'll ever own or build( I'll be 70 in aug). I really want another steel roadster but its not that practical. So I'm thinking a coupe or sedan, 32-34 steel car. So, the cabrio will be for sale this year. With it being sectioned etc, I don't know for sure where to start trying to price it. I know what it will take to replace !!!!!!! I'm asking for input. I'll include a couple of pics for those who have not seen it before. I know I'll get a bunch of questions about this and that but that's OK. Tim
I think if you built a Carson style top for that thing with the right proportions and profile, it would be a lot easier to sell... Something along these lines:
I agree with Ryan about building a lid for it. I have no idea on price. Looking in the cl*** ads prices seem to be all over the board. I will tell you this I like the car well enough that I would be willing to give a healthy price for it if I had a wealthy pocket book. Here is a thought, if or when you decide to sell it leave the option open for a trade plus on your next project. There may just be someone out there with a solid project that you would be interested in and give you enough boot to get you well into the final stages of your last car.
Ryan: `I'm trying to get my upholstery guy to commit to "my" schedule for the top. I'd like to take the car to him on the way home from beaterville. I have the pic of that cabrio saved in my computer and agree it would make a tremendous difference in the appearance of the car. It has an awkward look from certain angles. I do have top bows built that stow behind the seat (I guess they show in the interior pic). Just realized the cabrio you posted is a '32. I'll load up a pic of the one I have saved.
Tim, just my 2 cents, That car is awesome, and it will be the guy who appreciates the sectioning and style of the car to buy it. It's like my Vic, most people hate the molded headlights, if I ever do sell it, someone who says I like the car but I would change............ is not the one to pay the fair price. Don't worry about about the sectioning affecting the price unless you want a quick sell. Figure it's a steel car with some history, runs well, has the look, what would you pay fairly to buy it. The market is for the buyers and anyone looking for a custom Cabrio will appreciate the car as much as you !!!
Good luck. I found out quickly on cars and houses, prices are all over the place. Finding a guy who really wants it for the price you are asking is the trick. Yours looks nice. Besides 70 ain't old. Build something you can drive in the hills of Ky and have fun.
Tim you'll be sorry again. heh heh he. Sorry I can't give you a figure. I thought you said you lengthened it for your comfort. The sectioned one in your photo with the top is one good looking roadster. AIM high as there are a lot of low shooters out there. Just sold my 66 vette & 57 T-bird so don't ask me how I know.
After thinking a bit about this, I've thought about trying to find my old '34 sedan. It sort of went under the radar as far as I can tell. Its likely alive and well some where so here goes. I sold the car in march of '80 to a Mr. Bob Warner from Lafayette In. He p***ed away about a year after buying it. The fellow who told me this (he was from Danville Ill. the way I recall it) also told me His widow sole the car to a guy in St. Charles. I always thought Missouri until I recently woke up and realized there might be other St. Charles's. As in St. Charles Ill. Makes more sense to me now. So, if any of you are from there or near there and remember the car or might even know where it is, I would greatly appreciate some info. I'll include a pic and some other info to go on. It was featured in Rod Action in April of '78. It was in a Rod and Custom quarterly (#8) that same year. Also a center fold pic in Popular Hot Rodding in Oct. '78. If you want more pics. Thanks for taking the time to read this and hopefully one of you will hit the jackpot. Tim
