I have searched and I can't find any info on this. I am going to be pulling a straight 8 out of my 51 Pontiac chassis today, and I wanted to know the best place to bolt to the block. Any help is appreciated.

maybe before you do the lift you can post a pic of your setup, might be a good idea.

I have been able to wrap a long ass chain around a couple spots on engines without convenient bolt holes, just put bolts in the chain so it can't move.

  9. I have pulled 2 of these out of my pontiacs.

If it has the hydro trans, it is significantly more wieght biased than all the other motors I have pulled. The are heavy, the first one lifted the back legs of the cherry picker off the ground (I entended the boom too far for the weight) The last one I pulled, I ended up using some cheap BBC pull rings sold by every local autoparts store, I used 2 chains and crossed them but it was going to a new owner, I had to move it up onto a trailer and I didn't want to drop it on the concrete before I got it on his trailer.

yea, a bias bar or engine leveler is nice... but not needed. pull one bolt from the back, then another from close to the front... start pickin... if it drops its ass... let it down and move the front chain back a bolt till its relativly level when you pick it. easy

I've always pulled inline 6s by cradling them with a heavy tow strap. 1 loop between the block and bell and the other at the crank/harmonic balancer. I imagine you could do it with a straight 8. If the strap is rate to pull a 2000# vehicle, it can pull a 600# engine.

I used the head bolt hole in the front right, and one out of the left rear head. Attached a short chain, and it came right out. Thanks for all the responses.

  13. I leave the chains in Gymp room, don't want HIM getting out.
How about straps around the motor?
    Doc.

    Nice to see you Bluto!!

Gas axe the mounts let it fall on the ground and lift the chassis off...it's lighter!
