I need a speedometer for my late father's 1929 Nash. I have a customer in Switzerland who is ready to buy it, but only if we're able to get the speedometer working.

The hole on the transmission that accepts the speedometer cable measured .678 inches with the calipers or about 11/16. There's a worm gear inside that should drive a worm wheel (basically a regular spur gear) at the end of the cable. There is 1/4-20 theaded hole that sits 5/8" to the left of the cable hole.

On the dash end of the cable there is a hole that seems to accept a keyed shaft. It's surround by a course threaded hole that's about 11/16" wide.

I have tried to find a starting point for sourcing this, but I'm coming up short. Can a more learned hand at this help me out?

I talked to SpeedoService today and got good news and bad news. The bad news is that I need the appropriate worm wheel/gear in order for a speedo cable to be made. Does anyone have any idea where to procure such a thing?

I found a book in two volumes in my dad's collection labeled "1925-1933 Nash Parts Book"

I can't find anything for the Nash 460 coupe, but I found speedometer references for the 450 Series. It has an AC part number, which means this could be more common a part than I might have thought.

Do you think using the item referenced is a good place to start?

Cord I think it's as good a place as any to start.

  7. Give Kevin a call- he should have the Hollander interchange book for those years, and he has TONS of parts!

Tell him that Bill McKay said to call :)
