Firstly i want to acknowledge the wealth of information that i am gaining from this site. My name is Dean and i am from Australia originally but now live in France. I am in the final stages of purchasing my first truck witch like all of us (i guess) have dreamed about one day rebuild our own car!!! I have read Orula and Shadmans projects and it fills me with excitement of the upcoming challenge. These two guys are far beyond my level of experience but it give me a goal and direction to follow by people who know what they are doing. So i have got a 49 chevy 1/2 ton 5 window. The hardest thing is the fact i live in France so i will need to be super organised in regards to the parts and ordering! Can anyone out there give me direction in the planning stage and how or where to get reading material to help me through this important first step. I am by no means a car guy when it comes to the motors and transmission. I will only be changing the motor for a good reliable small block. Any help will appreciated and apologizes in advance for vagueness on my behalf. Dean
all your reading material is right here, just use the search function. my best advice is to address one system at a time, as no to overwhelm your self.
What are your plans for the truck? I would suggest to start by getting it running and driving and learn some basic maintenance. You will enjoy it a lot more that way than if you take it apart for a ground up rebuild. I think too many people tear apart a project and get overwhelmed by the big pile of parts.
the comments above are correct. "just" putting in a small block is more involved than one would think.
