I enjoy reading all these. I wish I was around then. I was born in 1981. The cars of my childhood are all Crap. Lucky for me I grew up in a motorhead family. My dad and uncle always had cool cars and still do. Thats what got me started.

I'm 15. I'm lying in bed on a warm summer's night, the windows are open and I can hear crickets and a dog bark. Somewhere in the distance I can hear an engine rev. My ears perk up and I hear the revs come up, a bang, and the squeel of tires. I hear the engine straining and carbs suckin big air and 3 times I hear the rise and fall of the rpm's, and then it fades away. The crickets and the dog come back. I drift into my dream of owning my own car.

I was a sophomore in high school that had just got a POS BSA bike that I thought was a rocketship. Took a couple of weeks to figure it wasn't.

I was born in 1960... so I don't remember a lot. But my grandfather had a 56 Chevy 2-door, and my dad a 56 ford fairlane. Dad traded the ford for a 64 fairlane, and Grandad traded the 56 Chevy for a 64 C10. I'm told I cried after both those trades. One thing for sure, I'd like to have any of those four rides back right now...

  27. I was in the Navy, stationed in Guam. 20 years old driving a 392 Hemi powered truck with dual carbs 5 speed stick that's the good. The bad part the Hemi was in a 17,000 pound crash truck. The real good was we had a 10,000 ft. Runway with no speed limits or cops.
I came back to the states in April of 62 and spent the rest of tour 120 miles from home at North Island San Diego

I was eight and living in the middle of a bunch of missle silos in northern Kansas. My father was with the Air Force at this time in the missle division and everywhere we lived it was the same situation. We drilled daily at school about the "Stop, drop and cover" routine if there was a sudden bright flash of light. We kids had competitions on who could jump off their bike, slide to a stop and cover your head the fastest after watching little Tommy do the same in all the Nuclear Safety movies. One day, the school sent home a notice that we were being issued identification tags (dog tags) to be worn at all times while at school. You could get either a bracelet or chain around your neck. The principle and vice-principle stood at the doors and checked each child as we entered the school. They just wanted to identify our toasted little bodies. Interesting times.

In Feb. I was in a hospital somewhere in Lakewood, New Jersey being born.

I have always been a big fan of the early 60's though. I dig the clothes (the straight leg pants, the skinny ties, the Rat Pack, long before people wore PJ bottoms and house slippers to the mall), the hairstyles (flat tops and basically cleancut, long before nose, and lip rings, face tats), the movies (Martin and Lewis, Elvis, beach movies, long before violent slasher movies)
but I especially like the cars!

The biggest majority of all the cars I have owned were early 60's. The early 60's had a lot of style, design and class. They still had a lot of chrome, but they all weren't quite as big as most of the 50's cars.
