I would LOVE to take up this art, but dont even know where to begin. I was just kind wondering how everyone else who does this got their start.
I bought a brush and some one shot and totally fucked up the scallops on my 91 chevy truck...then I found a real striper to fix them for me! Then a few years later I met up with the same old guy and he showed me how to stripe!
I started just working on my designs, pen, pencil. Then get a brush and practice, practice, practice. It is kind of hard to find good info, but i'm sure there are some people here that know enough about it to help you get started. Good luck.

If you're serious about learning,go buy a GOOD brush or two, then pm me your address and I'll send you a couple cans of one-shot. Local hardware store had a closeout sale last year--got a bunch of odd colors for a buck a can. There. Now are some of you talented stripers gonna give the kid some tips?
There are a couple good stripers down towards you. Top Hat and Flaming Freddie. Look one of them up at the show's.
after watching jeff shea stripe some cabinets at a friend of mine's tattoo shop, i became very intrigued. i bought a brush and a can of one shot and pretty much striped everything i could get my hands on....glass works really well because if you mess up you can just wipe it down with some thinner. there's no other way to learn how other than just doing it. you'll get better each time you pick up the brush. the first few lines you pull will frustrate the crap out of you, but they get better!!! look at some of the friday art show posts, there's always amazing striping on display there. jeff gave me a warning when i first expressed interest in learning to stripe...."be careful...it's like crack" you'll lose hours and days hovering over an object brush in hand. but it's alot of fun. buy a brush, buy some paint, and have a blast!!! good luck.
