I think Gotzy moved on long ago, but since we are still talking about this: there really is no good reason to build a 301 anymore. Back when the 327 came out, it seemed natural to stuff a set of 4-inch pistons into your 283, which was basically disposable anyway. But replacements blocks are no longer plentiful, and maintaining the winning edge over those new 327s is no longer critical. So bore your 283s within safe tolerances and just call them 301s for old times sake.
Dont fake it, do it, why does it even need to be a 283 or 327 block, i have a 350 block with spacer bearings, and as for cubes, there are still forms of racing where 5 liter is a cl*** As for 283's not being plentiful i keep tripping over them at home some even have Monster bores already
Running a 327 with a 283 crank is it that much better than running a 327 crank If "better" means "slower, right up to the point where it blows up".
