What kind of straight 6 was popular as a performance engine in the early 50s?
I just bought a Special that is set up for one.
( I really lucked out, even my broke ass self could afford it...)
I set a Hurst SBC front motor mount on the chassis brackets, and they are a little narrower than the Hurst...
Pics will follow, I have not made any yet...

Fer sure on the GMC and chev...you can still find and get some cool stuff for them. That Patricks truck place is big on the GMC's and had some kool stuff in a catalogue I was looking at (he is the cousin of a guy I work with and he always has them laying around). Scavanger pipes and two twos looks pretty cool on them.

Thanks Doc, Do they fit the same.
Or are the motor mounts different?
Wasn't the Wayne (Sp) head for the GMC?
    Were these engines any good?

You can usually squeeze a Jimmy in where A Chevy was but they are about 1-1/2" longer than the Chevy.
The Wayne stuff was made for both of them I think...
A GMC is more similar to a Buick 8 with two cylinders cut off than it is to an early Chevy, and you did say early.

Did all of these engines have the front motor mounts like I discribed?
It seems like an long gap to bridge, even with bellhouse mounts...

There is some interchangability between some of the chevys and some of the jimmies though...i.e. 261 rods = 270 rods.....

From what i've read, definatly the Chevies and GMC's. I did a little research on them online, and there are some neat tricks to get those motors running. If you snag that book that has the first 10 issues of Hop Up, there is an artical in one of the last issues on hopping up an inline that's still usefull I think..

I don't have enough stamps to mail you my 500 Caddy engine. Guess I'll just have to stick it in a t-bucket or RPU. [IMG]

    Change of plans...
I mocked up a SBF in it because I have a really wild Shelby IDA Weber intake thats modified for sidedraft carbs.
It came out OK, but not great. ( Motor mounts would be a problem.)
Then I mocked it up with a SBC, I have a Hurst front motor mount and it bolted up to the frame.
The Engine sits a little low, but that is easy enough to space up...
No mods to the frame, exept where they fucked up the tranny mounts anyway.
So SBC it is... ( Damn, I really wanted to use that intake.)
I will post some pics after Tech week is over.
    Thanks for your help guys.
