I've read quite a few of old threads concerning the distributor that came on my '54 but there isn't much guidance of what I can use to do away with points and condenser. I'd like to keep my spark plug wires because they are new and I don't know if I can route them correctly with the engine in the car.

I think the Reverend had a video on this. Something like a distributor from a '60 pickup with a Y and an Accel conversion. Disclaimer, I watch far too much YouTube and get my facts confused easily;)

What spark plug wires do you have. If you have the old copper core, I don;t think they are compatible with an electronic distributor. If you are 6 volts, Pertronix makes a 6 volt unit (I think) so talk to them. If you are 12 V, there are a few different makers of distributors besides a 57 and later Ford ..

That is one of the old posts I read. I've stuck with 6 volt, pos ground trying to keep the car as original as possible so it is the original distributor also. I've found that finding the correct points is a challenge and since I'm not as limber as I used to be I really don't want to have to do roadside repairs.

I've heard (on the old 1954 Ford website) that if you are using a Pertronix that having a set of points and condenser in the glovebox is a good idea. I really can't tell you if the reproduction wires are copper core or not. I remember thinking how difficult it would be to replace them with the engine installed.

The Pertronix 12 volt units are pretty reliable, the 6 volt conversions not so much, as we had several members end up with failed units and some that never worked from day one, these were posted here about a decade ago, maybe the bugs have been worked out over the years. You might want to check this out too https://www.dennis-carpenter.com/tr...a-12000-1283p6-solid-state-ignition-sys-6-vo? Be sure to get the matching coil.

That is exactly what I'm looking for. Now I need to determine if I have solid core spark plug wires. Thanks!

I'm still thinking about the h***le of replacing the wires. When I get the time I'm going to further investigate what I have installed before I buy anything.
