I am still kicking around ideas for a drivetrain in my 32 truck. I haven't decided if I am going to use a flathead, but I'd certainly like to do some more reading about them. Which books are the best to own regarding the Ford flathead V8?
This has been asked to death. Go to search and punch in flathead book, entire phrase and the list of posts about this subject will come up. There are a few.
There are 4 really good ones, all available at Speedway & Amazon. Authors: Frank Oddo Tex Smith Mike Davidson Joe Abbin The last is about blown flattys but it has a bunch of good flow info on porting & relieving. Ive followed his methods and they show some great unblown dyno numbers. There are several others but they offer very little (or nothing) extra to the above.
I just got mine here www.thehotrodcompany.com its a fellow HAMB'ers site Sidevalve. Great service and the books came right away...
Here's a pretty good read for FREE: http://www.flatheadv8.org/rumblest/intro.htm I'd by TexSmith/Ceridono first, then Abbin--but the real answer is everything you can get your hands on--there are bits of info and good ideas in all of the old and new ones, and plenty of contradictory or just wrong info too. You really should do a lot of reading before making basic decisions. I liked the truck pic you posted. Whar have you collected for the job so far? Bruce

I am still gathering parts, but so far I have: - cab - bed + tailgate - 33 commercial shell - Guide lights - 40 wheels And I'm working on a deal right now to get a repro 32 frame to get started on the underbelly.
