Which Hemi heads are the best?

I'm putting together a 331 and would like to know if some years were better then others for head use? better breathing or bigger ports in some models.

The 55's are considered best. The '56 354 is next. The 392 won't work at all for you.

 

what about the late 54 331 heads, are they the same as the 55?

 

They probably flow as well. I don't know but think the 54 heads lack the front water outlets. You would be better off with the later heads because intakes are more available.
