I’ll go contrary: making the case for the modern driveline. You are 78 and admittedly slowing down. Your wife has health issues that occupy your time. Things are going to continue to slow, not speed up.

I would be installing the (more) modern parts with the idea to make the car as bulletproof as possible. Do it simple, bolt-in parts or (gasp) 1-800 parts.

Build a car you can daily without worry, and most importantly, your wife can enjoy without worry of being stranded. As you age, and your wife continues to slow, this will be something you can continue to enjoy year after year. I fear if you leave it stock, or SBC with the stock driveline, it will eventually fail when you know longer have the ability or desire to fix it. And then you lose the ability to enjoy the hobby.

I love a flathead, but think you are at a stage and cir***stance where that might not be the right choice. Save the flatheads for the T.

Alan ever thought of flipping a coin either way you'll get it done...so many valid reasons to go either way...again Flatheads continue to cross the nation without to many issues of we'd here more here...

If you know an engine guru your way get a valid health status with the numbers you shared...is it a halfway dead engine puffing smoke away...these are gamebreakers...
