if you had to choose a model A ch***is (complete less motor and trans and wheels and tires) which company would you buy from? I am thinking of getting a complete ch***is and drop in a 289 5 speed and droping my stock model A body on it (I know I will have to do something to the fire wall). My stocker 4 cyl is losing its center main and I checked prices for what I want in a rebuilt motor and they seem to run from around $4,000.00 to $6,000.00 to rebuild the 4 cylinder. At that price I am thinking about going modern so I can use it as my daily driver. I am thinking for a few more thousand dollars than the cost of the 4 cyl rebuild It could be done. thanks for any and all input.
TCI has been building Model A frames since 1974. They have it down to a science. Even if you don't buy one of their frames you should go out to their facility and see what they can do for you. http://www.totalcostinvolved.com/
Glad to read you plan to keep it Ford powered. Check to be sure the new ch***is doesn't have a rear kick up, unless you don't mind the work cutting out your floor pans to allow the stock body to fit.
I got mine from Derrek at Boling Brothers. You can get anything from a perimeter to full ch***is build. They offer other combinations not listed on the website. http://www.bolingbrothers.com/live/
There's always the one Henry made. Boxing plates cost about $100. If you're just looking to update the engine for more reliability, there's no reason you can't work with what you already have.
