I honestly think a SBC would be more traditional than a SBF. The SBC's been around since '55. When did the 260 ford come out? 1960-1961? Just my two cents. Besides who wants that ugly distributor sticking out front? Also, you want it to run good, right?

Put a ford in a ford. Swapping in a GM motor trend is tired and wore out. You'll be just like all those others that have done it, they're stuck driving around a desecrated car. I don't care how nice a car looks when I go to a show if it's got a gm motor... I've seen one I've seen them all... even in a GM, because it's so played out. Do something different, run a SB ford, a y block or Cleveland, or even an FE.

A guy around here has a 351cj in a 30 something sedan, now that's cool.

Another guy is building a Plymouth/Chrysler... not sure, and that will have a baby hemi in it... cool!

Always love these posts. Tight budget usually gets a sbc. you can get em on craigslist for 300 bucks carb to pan ready to run and run they will. ask my brother. ford small block to me is just as belly ****on so why work harder to put it in and pay more?????? but if you gots the dough then what about 215 aluminum buick?? or redram hemi?? or fe ford?? or 425 nailhead will dual quads??

I think let the money make the decision.

small block ford or chevy, id put a chevy in it

reason: better dress up goodies, cheaper, looks better, allows for earlier traditional period than sbf

These threads always make me smile, especially the guys who say "don't put a Chevy in a Ford, be different, put a Ford in a Ford". :D

the sb ford has a heritage all to it's own, it's been raced, put in some of the hottest cars of the day, and has had a hand in bringing back the American performance car with the 5.0 and keeping it alive. It was the last production car to continue to use a holley carb (80s HO 5.0), and its the only production V-8 to ever win the 24 hrs of Le mans with a 289. Traditional or not, the heritage is their.

I hate the Siamese exhaust ports of a SBC.

One other thing to consider, when comparing a SBF to a SBC, most people think 302 vs 350. So the chevy already has a CID advantage, yet the Fords hold their own and then some. You build a good windsor, or a Cleveland, and the belly ****on boys don't know what to think.

Of the two choices I would go with the SBF.

The choice is yours Chevy or Ford but here are some pics of the 302 VS 351W in a shoebox. Lots more room on the 302. Check out the header to steering post.

I agree with "283john". The "put a ford in a ford" is getting old AND not very traditional. By the way, I have a sbc in my 49, put in years ago. The install was a breeze and I can and do drive it anywhere, including New Mexico to Cali. last year. My '32 is getting a caddy 331. Ford in a ford? Who cares, use what you want and can afford and work on!

I would go with a traditional looking SBC or a Y block if you want a ford in a ford.

I was just going to say, you want a Ford in a Ford put a y-block in it. A y-block w/3 Strombergs is about as old school looking as you can get.

    Put a ford in a ford. either a y-block or a flathead.

  19. Put a Buick or Olds 455 in it and fry tires all day long for cheap.

Oh, please go with the sbc. I'm just dyin' to see another mucked-up Ford with a generic chevy engine in it. Think of all the time and money you'll save cuz it's "cheaper and easier". Of co**** it's also traditional cuz everybody's done it for freakin' ever.

Sarcasm is generally missed or overlooked around here. So-every one of those Fords you've got listed in your profile running a Ford motor?

Bottom line... The Chevy is the easiest swap between the two. It's up to you as to whether you can take the heat about either one. I vote for a full race flattie.

I just gotta say the SBF is the ugliest motor ever, and in my openion Ford stopped making motors after the y-block, I say SBC if you have to choose between the two.

In a 49-50 Shoeboxes the C4 small bellhousing is a good fit,a large bellhousing C4 or AOD will not be unless you want to do some floorboard mods,in '51 the floorboards were larger and no mods will be needed.
