    Hello everyone,

    Building a '30 A coupe on deuce rails, powered by a real healthy '56 324 Olds rocket w/ m-22 rockcrusher 4 speed.

I have decided to go the quick change route and have been searching and doing homework for the past few days......but am still new to this.

I am really looking at the Halibrand V8 (open) center, but there are so many to choose from (Halibrand,Frankland,Winters,Rodsville,Tiger, etc.)

I have a stock '35/'36 ford rear banjo, and would like to use the side bells with this center section, use my '36 bones, and my narrowed model a rear spring.

I just want something that will last me as I have a lead foot.....and will hold up to a big HP engine. :D

SO.....What is your opinion? What is super strong...but not expensive? Please help!

I have sold lots of Winters with no problems. They have a new complete rear with tapered early style housings designed with a short straight section which makes it easier to attach brackets. They also have a unit which will work with your bells.

Have you tried the guys at the Hot Rod Works over in Nampa. They know there quick changes.

  4. I'm not worried about the traditional Police so I've had all... now I just find the "Sweetest Deal" and make it fit.

Great deals on Winters and they can handle more than that 324 can put out but get a "Locker" or you'll be white knuckling it with a spool or "One Wheel Peel" with an Open!

Someone on here would know more than me about the V8 style quick changes, but the Winters and Frankland BIG quick changes are bulletproof. We run them in our roundy round cars and never have any problems. Even with 800HP. We abuse them severely, and they hold up.

Winters makes one that will accept the Ford bells, but it looks funny because the center section is so big compared to the axle tubes.

I would find a used one from a circle track guy, freshen it up and run it.

I have used several Franklin and winters rears and not had any problems at all. Once set up right you wont have any problems I can think of.

  7. X2 on the Smith bros at "Hot Rod Works" in Nampa. You're so close, I'd at least call them and see what they can do for you. Great guys and they really know Quick changes.

Awesome! Thanks for the info everyone. I tried to contact the Hot Rod Works today but no reply today. Will give them a buzz tomorrow.

So it sounds like I need to invest in a Frankland or a Winters quick change with a nice detroit locker. Sounds okay to me. I just want a "hassle free" old school rear diff that will last me for years to come (and look great!)

I want to go mostly traditional, but I want it to be a HOT ROD too, so I can collect as many speeding & rapid acceleration tickets as I possibly can :D

Also.....if I was to find one from a "roundy-rounder", are they pretty simple to rebuild? I would like to tackle much of this stuff as I possibly can (or learn how to). I have seen diagrams on certain websites......but like I said, I am totally new to rebuilding a Q/C or buying one.

    Thanks again everyone!

  9. Just leave the passenger tire on... flip it on that side and pull it apart and the locker/spool will be sitting right there for the rebuild.

It's hard for me to run anything but a quickchange because they are so simple and versatile and done right... you can button one up fairly reasonable.
