Which seat in my Shoebox Ford?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Shawn F., Feb 24, 2012.

  1. I own a chopped 49 Ford Coupe that I am trying to finish up in the next 3-4 weeks. One of the things that needs to be done is a seat installed. I have one of two seats to choose from (free). Either a seat from a 50 Ford Sedan or a 54 Chevy Belair Hardtop. Both are in the same kind of shape with the 50 Ford seat being original looking materior and grey in color and the 54 Chevy being black and white vinyl.
It seems that maybe the 54 Chevy seat sits higher and I was told was a bit more cushony and comfortable but no clue... Any ideas or suggestions as to which one to go with?

    Thanks!

It depends on which one you feel most comfortable in - ergonomically.

I would think that the '50 Ford seat would be a no-brainer . It will feel about the same (comfort wise) and as a bonus it'll bolt right in !

none of the above - depending on how low your roof is both free seats will be too tall. search for 60's bucket seats to use, can be found in ads here or wrecking yards, etc.
I have to install '62 T-Bird seats without the adjuster track to get a good view out of my chopped '51 that is For Sale here.

  5. I agree on the stock seat. Why make something else fit when the original just bolts in?

  6. Well the question I have is really which seat is better/more comfortable? As for bucket seats, I'd rather keep a bench seat. I guess I can chop the frame down some or something? I will have to take a closer look at it...
