Man its been over a year since I have posted. Got busy working on boats but I'm back on the Galaxie.

My 352 has a Ford-o-matic that doesnt work any more want to upgrade which tranny would bolt up and how tough would it be to modify?

    Any suggestions welcome

    Peace

c6 will bolt up, but youll need a different driveshaft and i believe different tranny mounts.

my 64 has a cruise o matic and i love it, id keep it over a c4 or c6.

Not alot of choices. You can put a C6, FMX, or cruise-o-matic. FMX and the Cruise-o-matic were just about the same except that the FMX did not have the rear pump as the Cruise-o-matic did. Or you could find a bellhousing and put a 4 speed behind it.

A built C4 with a FE bellhousing is an option and you will NEVER hurt it. A FE specific C6 would be the fast easy choice and aftemarket support is outstanding. Or you could take your existign tranny to a tranny shop and they can rebuild it to like new. Now if you want to get fancy you can buy adapter kits to mount up.... AOD (weak as delivered, very tough when modified correctly), 4R70W (needs a computer to operate), 700R4, 200R4, Turbo 350/400.

There are many options, you are only limited buy your budget. I'd probably look for a FE C6 and get a Ford Racing C6 gear set (fully rollerized, better 1st/2nd ratios), and rebuild the thing with a shift kit. It's easy and the parts are cheap. No adapters would be needed.

    I put a C6 in my '66 Galaxie with a 390FE. I think I used a Torino trans mount...if memory serves the Cruise-O-Matic mount wouldn't work with the C6.

In my '62 Galaxie wagon I swapped out the old cast iron Cruise-O-Matic for a C6 out of a '68 428 T-Bird. The driveshaft ended up being roughtly the correct length, but went to a shorter pinion on the rear end since the yoke was getting too close to the trans when I lowered the car 2". Also had to modify the stock cross member a lot to mount the C6 and have access to the pan with the cross member in. I'm still fighting linkage problems and kickdown linkage issues with the setup. If I had a choice to do it all over again, I would have just rebuilt the COM and hauled ass with that.
