Ok here is my problem I have a 12 bolt rear end that I pulled out of a 70's c10 and I have a drive shaft that will work for my 59 chevy that have the 12 bolt in it however the u-joint that it uses is for a 10 bolt. I have went to NAPA and they cant seem to figure out what combination joint to use. Dose anyone know what u-joint will work for this application?
somtimes you can buy both from the same company 10 bolt and 12 bolt and then switch the caps dosent always work but ive done it . Check the u joints with a mic to make sure .Alsow take some calipers and check the old ones for both drive shafts if you have them, That will give you you sizes and then napa can find the one you need .
Go to a clutch and driveline shop for big trucks and heavy equipment. They found the conversion joint I needed for my F1 driveshaft to ford 8" rear and had it installed in ten minutes and laying on the parts counter. It took longer to print the receipt up and pay.
Napa should be able to figure out what u-joint you need . if they can\'t they are not doing their job..tell the owner of the store to hire some people who know what they are doing , and pay them accordingly. tell him he missed a sale because he was too cheap to hire knowledgeable counter people. i would have NEVER walked out of the store without the correct part..i would have walked into the owners office and sat there until i got the proper help . the part you needed was probably on the shelf within feet of you enough with my rant , this doesn\'t help you now. Mudslinger is right , go to a place like he suggested that know their stuff
Try: "Combination" U-joint (Dana #5-3022X) Connects ****er 1310 to Saginaw S44. two 1-1/8th caps and two 1-1/16th caps or McQuay-Norris #460 Connects ****er 1310 to ****er 1350. Two 1-1/16th caps and two 1.188 caps. These are the two common Chevy conversion joints. Napa can cross these over to what they carry.
